I stay with what I say. It looks AWFUL, it belongs into a VOLKSWAGEN Porsche (914). Performance isn't everything. I'd take the 76 flat six any day instead, thermal reactors and all! ;)

Cheers, George

Hey George... ya weinie, what do you think the very first Porsche was made of? Get a clue. Get a history lesson. :D

Kevin Powers 07-23-2004 08:46 AM

a clean 912e fetches a premium, not that one. very funny, read the 944 ad. the car comes wth a new timing belt because the current one is "blown" and they WILL help you find a new head. ha ha. the dirty rockers are a nice touch for the ad. "fu*ks", "head", "blown", there seems to theme to the ads. please let me know where i can find a new 2.0/4 for the cost of a vw 1600dp.

You obviously lbelieve that "performance isn't everything", otherwise you would have purchased a 914-6..... although I think I read that the "VW" version had TTOD at this years parade - think it was a 1.7 too.
Good to see we are all on the same page.

I wouldn't mind that 912 - you can always rip the wing off and throw on a set of 7" wheels. At least he changed the thing on that era 911 that bugs me the most - those rediculous giant headlight surrounds. The euro version is so much cleaner.

That's history! ;)

Seriously though. Let me try to explain. In Germany, the VW Kaefer was the curse of the average Joe and the Porsche 911 was the ultimate machine. In the US there is a much finer line between the two brands, even the beetle is considered cult and special. In Germany the two brands couldn't be more different. My sense is that that had ben a fact from day one, even though I wasn't there for it...

Cheers, George

Hehehehehe.... a couple of years back a 914/4 took the TTOD at the Mosport event, you should of heard the grumbling of the whine and cheese crowd. :D

Still makes me laugh

Hey George,

Do you happen to participate in any of the GGR autocross events?

I would never! That TTOD blue 914 that Andrew Bleyholder drives spanks every car out there. :D With the help of the chassis lightning gods (no windshield, no engine cover, no alternator!) and Easy, he is the champ!

I better stop, I feel like I am on the 914 board already! The 914 is a great car, I never said it was bad.

Take care now, George

Seriously though. Let ME try to explain.

You're an elitist pr1ck... get over yourself! It's whine-and-cheese jerks like yourself that give the rest of us a bad name.

Geez Bob, no need for name calling. I hardly think that Georges comment was "cheese and wine". The 914 crowd has always gotten the job done with less and should revel in that fact. I am personally thick skinned about such opinions and I wouldn't say George is a prick. Just a little misguided. :)

I agree, that's a bit harsh...but at the same time, I've come across some high-end P-car owners, that stick their nose up in the air and start with the NARP crap, just because 914 guys didn't spend a 100K for their ride.

Who designed the 914 and do the 911 guys realize that even their cars (of that era) have peppering of VW parts through them?

Even our lowly T4 engine has Porsche design (or redesign) in it. VW said a 2.0 couldn't be done, Porsche did it and 3 yrs later the bus had a 2.0.

A 914 may not be a 911 and a 911 is not a 914, but they are both a Porsche, no matter what factory they came from.

BURN-BROS 07-25-2004 10:38 AM

Well said Mark. I am sure pre-A owners don't get the same flak about their engines.

Just for the record: I dink beer and eat sausage.

My SC needed a lot of work and cost as much as most people's 914. I have never had any of my cars (4 or more of them, including the SC) in a shop, except for alignments and smog testing. So, don't think you have some elitist pencil pushing geek with two left hands sitting here bashing VW and the 914 crowd. The 914 is a very respectable machine, it's got the engine in the right spot etc. It just ain't for me, and the 4 cylinder engine doesn't strike a chord with me, especially in the beauty department. That's all I said. I don't say you all have bad taste, if you like the 914.

Cheers (with beer that is)

George

Actually, Clay, it was a very large-motored Six that took TToD and TToDL at Parade.

I think I agree that the 912E motor is "horrid" as well--in the same way as a CA-spec 911 engine is "horrid". Thermal reactors? Plus EGR? Ugh!!!
