911SC in the August 2004 Grassroots Mag

Is the owner of that car here on PP? It's interesting that some of the mods he chose contradicts some of the chosen mods I've read about on this BBS. Looks like he's getting 220 hp @5500 by going with SSI headers, heat exchangers and muff plus new camshafts. Is that hp gain possible with those mods? I mean that's, what, a 42 hp gain over factory? For the suspension, he stuck to original tbars but went with 22/21 swaybars, stock Bilsteins and turbo tie-rods. Most guys here seem to go for stiffer tbars, HDs and Sports Bilsteins plus turbo trods but leave the sway bars alone. Pretty good write-up and a nice looking SC. Sounds like the car and owner are from the SF Bay Area. Hey, if you're here, let us check out your car!

I doubt you can measure 220 hp at the crank on an 81 with the 81 heads and just by doing cams and exhaust. There must be more to it. E.g. a tweaked CIS, higher compression, twin plugging, 3.2 short stroke, something like this. I think with those mild mods you'll get probably 200 on a good day. Were the numbers *measured*? Or estimated? Can you point us to the article online or scan it and send it to interested parties?

Cheers, George

The article is in the most recent Grass Roots Motorsport which is most likely still at your local Barnes and Noble or Borders. Given that the mag is still being sold, it's most likely not a good thing to copy it here to Pelican's BBS without the approval of GRM. BTW, GRM's sister publication has been posting to this site with their project car, maybe they'll be interested in sharing.

John:

Nobody said it will be copied and posted to the board. But I get your point! I'll go by the bookstore this WE. This has me curious ...

No one's mentioned it yet but I'm curious about the 6mm larger airflow sensor and 4mm larger throttle body. Where do you find the larger sensor plate and would there be any noticable improvement with just these two mods?

I know that www.scargoracing.com modifies CIS bits, including throttle plates.
