It's alive and I drove it home!
Well after something like 2 years of talk, a 10 months of DIY wrenching and a month of professional help I'm on the road! My 1970 911E is back in top form (mechanically).
I really have to give a lot of credit to Chuck Miller at MillerSportAuto in Hillsborough, NC ( http://millersportauto.com ) He put 28 hours into the car, and I have never seen it run better in the 13 years I've been around this car. He really knows his stuff. The thing is a blast to drive, MFI really puts out the power. It does seem a little strange that the car no longer drips or smokes, but I think I can get used to it. And starting all the time? This thing is trying to pretend it's an actual working car. Alas my digital camera is on another continent, and I borrowed another one sans any memory, so I only have a few "photos" (really they're expiriements in low light photography and grain!) but I will have something tomorrow! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1090559432.jpg And I want to thank everybody on this board, and our esteemed hosts, cause without you guys I'd probably still be working on the brakes! Now I can tackle the improtant projects, like door handles, and getting the clock to work again. Britt |
Congrags Britt:
I feel for you. One misses the smell of burnig oil on the heat exchangers. But don't worry, give it a few months, some oil will leak again. There are literally HUNDREDS of places where that stuff can come from! :D Enjoy the car and don't worry about the little stuff to much. DRIVE IT! George |
... and I drove it to work!
Here is a picture in the light of day...
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1090610298.jpg If anyone is interested in what sort of tuneup you need for a car that hasn't really run in 7 years... points, plugs, rotor, cap, air filter, fuel filter. master cyinder, new rubber brake lines pedal cluster rebuild new batteries adjust all 20 or so links in the throttle adjust MFI adjust timing remove rat condo from on top of cylinder 3. fix oil leak around the mfi drive gear on the left cam fix all those melted wires which cause the car to not start fix the lights so they don't blow fuses replace all the fuel lines in the engine compartment, cause 34 year old rubber lines are brittle, and nobody wants one of those to break. new tires And thats just what Chuck did. I did all this before he got it... full brake caliper rebuild new rotors new pads new oil turbo valve covers anyhow, enjoy the better photo! Britt |
Allll right!
Man, Light Ivory + Chrome Sugar Scoops ROCK! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1060521236.jpg |
John, have you ever been to VIR? Your car looks really familiar.
Britt |
I havent but the car has. Prior owner was a former Speedvision rookie of the year, who was based near Summit Point and VIR is in the log book. The graphics would have been different but the "S" spoiler and duck the same.

Britt, the car looks terrific!!! We are in the early stages of putting together our Fall Pelican Drive Day. PM me with your email address and I'll make sure you get all the info. We would love to see the car up close and hear the MFI at work.

It's official!
I'm now grinning like an idiot!
Put about 100 miles on the car this morning driving around on this lovely bit of back woods road: http://www.byways.org/browse/byways/12833/travel.html. Swung by the garage down the street, got my inspection sticker (all hail NC!) and went back up for another pass on the byway. I think that finishes phase 2 of my porsche project, deciding if I like driving it and want to keep it! Britt, grinning fool :) |
