Porsche Crest Changing gear ratios on a 915?

I find I am not happy with the 8\31 ratio on my newer tranny. I am used to the stump pulling power of my previous 901 with its 7\31 ratio.

How involved is the changeover (putting a new ring and pinion into the 915) once I have my tranny out?

Costs?

You might be able to buy a used one for what it would cost to rework what you have. Look for a 74 trans it should have a TL 5th gear that will help easy highway cruising RPM

find a 76 912E trans which has an electric speedo, and use the complete 7:31 R+P and shims from it. it's a direct swap, no setup needed. be sure to get the drive flanges with it, as they are coarse splined and a 77 is fine splined. same outer flange shape/size.

I did what John said and it saved me money vs. having to source a spacer and shims etc etc. It's a very good upgrade, and as long as things are apart I'd swap in a taller 5th too.

Excellent choice - my '86 3.2 screams through every gear! Great for track and autoX using 7.31 with stock trans gears.

Porsche Crest

Alright! Now I know what to do, thanks!

I'd use my 901, but I hear they have issues as they get close to 200+ horsepower.

Noah, I did e-mail you, thanks!
