Is ignition switch cover plate rice?

I may be getting carried away with this but the cover plate that carcrafter has to offer looks kinda cool. What do you guy's think. NICE OR RICE??

I see the mod bug is starting slowly but surely. First the radio delete and now an aftermarket ignition cover.

I think you're talking about this gizmo.

If it works with your interior then go for it. I don't think it's "rice" I'm actually SICK of hearing (reading) that so much on this board...

Anyway, If you think it's cool do it. I have white guage faces that most consider "ricey" around here. But, my car is white and black and they compliment nicely, plus the white makes them seem really bright at night.

In terms of stainless steel or brushed aluminum, given the monochromatic nature of our interiors it's challenging to do just one piece. You'll want to make it more of an ensemble, door handles, shifter knob, maybe rings... to give the stainless a more complete look. Ultimately, it's what you like, you drive it...

The original part has always made me scratch my head. There are so many things that seem well engineered then you come across the occasional piece like this. Even in newer cars, this piece is scuffed and faded. Why didn't they make this piece out of a more durable material as it is bound to get abused by keys and such?

With those guage faces, it looks nice. Are you going to do the rest of the trim? Lock knobs and whatnot?

My interior is 2 tone brown, not a lot I can do with that.

There's a black anodized version of that, which I believe I got from Performance Products, several years ago. It attaches with a shear head bolt, and supposedly makes it more difficult for thieves to slide hammer the ignition cylinder. Are you sure this isn't a "silver" version of what I have?

No, they're different. The Perf Products version has a threaded hole in the front that a breakaway locking screw goes into. The silver one is strictly a "cosmetic" upgrade without the security feature. It would be nice if they made a black anodized version without the locking screw hole.

Didn't plan on any more silver pieces for the interior. My current cover is trashed and would imagine a new stock one would get scuffed pretty quickly as well. I might try it. RS door panels, Momo Competition wheel and Shadow shift knob ordered!! hoo yaa!

How about something a little more subdued? This might convey to certain segments of our society, "insert slide hammer here." A red anodized piece wouldn't stand out so much.

I must say that from a group of guys who run more wings, spoilers and loud exhaust.......we are awful critical

I know, unlike the Kia Rio, our cars can actually benefit and use the wings. Though for most street cars only running 65mph they are officially "extras".

Bring on the rebuttal, but why are we all about declaring something "Ricing"? Lets just go Racing! Enjoy being an individual or park in concours.

The fundamental problem is that you are disimproving the car even if only a little. The Al weighs more than the plastic. Wt. is anathema to a sports car. There is the problem.

You might try a CF plate -- a bit dressier. It could be called fake as you aren't saving any wt. But after I finish lightening my car, I will add one -- to accent what you can't see.

Eh... this sounds trivial, but your keys are going to go 'clink clink clink' over bumps...

Maybe a more brushed or matte annodized coating?

That picture has absolutely convinced me to paint my gauge surrounds silver, though.

Randy, weight? You could lose that much weight leaving your Michael Bolton CD at home. Or peeing before leaving the house. Heck, you'd save enough weight there to install a nicer shift knob!
