Contemplating powder coating my fan and fan housing . . .
either red or silver. Has anyone else done that? Any pics? Color ideas?

F/S Very Sweet Fan Shroud
It has been done, as far as colors go, match your car's color scheme |

Al reed is supposed to be the man. Just make sure to have Al or whomever does the powdercoat to mask the ends od the fan blades. No mask = interference/rubbing= mess.
Don't ask how I know, but it will be corrected this winter.

They only have 3 colors (white, black, and silver), but you can't beat their prices.

I did red & black - done locally. Very few have had clearance issues - but you might be in that few....

I strongly advise against painting the fan blade, either by powder coating or painting. The speed the fan is turning will eventually cause the leading edge of the blades to chip and then oxidize. Better to clean the fan once to polish and then let it accululate a matte finish that is maintenance free and acceptable. I've seen many a painted fan that is chipped up and look worse then when it started.

painted fan
I like what 89911 did. Looks AIRCRAFT.
What was the abrasive and final grit? Is there any clear coat or plate final step? |

I was sending my roll bar to the powder coater and figured I should pull out the fan and fan housing and send it along with the bar...easy right?? WRONG....
Removing everything wasn't a quick task....not hard just a pain in the a$$....once the fan, housing and alternator was pulled from the engine, I had a b$tch of a time getting the alternator out of the housing. During the removal process I ended up breaking one of the alternator brushes.....again not hard but a pain in the a$$...and about $75 replacement part. Was it worth it? Absolutely....just wanted to share with you my experience so that your task won't be as difficult. BTW...I powdercoated everything silver.....what a difference it makes in the engine bay appearance. Good luck!

My car had a chipping coated fan. I used a lot of elbow grease to get it back down to bare mag so I could let it grow a beautiful and durable grey platina. As the following pic shows I have also taken the stainless exhaust down to bare metal so I can appreciate its golden hue once it heat cycles.

I say Powdercoat it, I've never had any trouble with mine after almost 4 years. It's all in the prep work. I just wish I would have done the Fan Housing in Black to really contrast the fan. oh well, it's never too late.
