Talking I need a quick favor from '88 and up owners...

I'm installing a pair of door speakers this weekend and need to know the measurements for the factory tweeter holes like the '88 and up models have. For now, I'll be surface mounting my tweeters, but I want to make sure I get them mounted in exactly the right spot since I'll be recessing them into a pair of factory grills soon.

There are already holes in the door board for the window cranks if the car had manual windows. I'm assuming that the '88 and up cars tweeters were centered either exactly in that spot or somewhere close. I'd like to know the exact location (OK, anal I know, but I'm cutting into an all original car, and would like to get it "right").

David

My car had the factory tweeters. The infinity kappa's that I bought a few years ago fit exactly into the old tweeter housing. How sweet is that. If you need more pictures, I'll look.

Yeah, that's what I'm working towards. I'm going "old school" and installing a complete a/d/s/ system that I've had for years. The 320i separates will go in the doors with the tweeters flushed into the '88 style tweeter housings to make it look factory.

Here's the back...

What I'd like to know is if the factory tweeter housings are centered on that blank hole just below the window switches (I know it's not large enough as it sits) and if all I need to do is enlarge it, OR does it need to be moved to one side. Like I said before, I know it's kinda being picky, but I do want to make it look right...

David, I'm at work right now, but will be glad to offer pictures and measurements when I get home. Maybe someone will cover it before that.

On my '88 the measurement you indicated is 7/8"
The measurement from switch hole edge to speaker hole edge is 1.4"
