C-shaped bar connecting A-arms?

This sure seems like a stupid question, but I can't find the answer in searches, nor find it in parts diagrams...

What's the C-shaped bar that connects on the front of the A-arms on an 85 carrera? It goes from the front of the A-arms to towards the front of the car.

I'm wondering if I can remove it temporarily without goofing up alignment, etc. Thanks.

That is your sway bar. Yes you can remove it without altering alignment.

Thanks Chuck.

Isn't this my front sway bar?

The part I'm talking about connects to the front of the a-arm and runs out to the front of the tub, behind the bumber, and back to the other a-arm. It seems to be bolted on the to end of the torsion bar mounting point/cover on the front end of the a-arm

Sorry if I'm using these names incorrectly... I really need a bentley book.

That sounds like the guard bar for your front AC condenser. It has no affect on alignment.

Thanks Steve -- my AC's been removed.

Can the bar come off and stay off?? It looks heavy...

I would think so, unless you are the type to drive over parking bumpers often - like me.

I'm curious about the answer to this question as well: will unbolting the front a-arm bolts screw up the alignment?

tomt 07-25-2004 10:41 AM

I think this guard bar's bolts are not connected to the A-arm... I'll be taking a whack at it this PM and will let you know.

Well the bar came off easily... another couple of pounds for the diet. Without that bar there, it made installing the rubber lip below my new Ruf bumper much easier (though still a pain).

I'll buy it if it's for sale ?

Sorry Ronin -- I'm saving all the parts.
