WUR Fuel Line

On my '82 SC the short (1ft) RUBBER fuel line bridging the hard line from the fuel distributor to the WUR has dry wrotted. It seems to have an inner diameter of 4mm (5/32 vacuum hose fits). I am unable to find this diamter fuel hose - not on the pelican web site or local auto parts. I placed 3/16 hose on with hose clamps but I see beading of fuel. Does anyone know a source for hose or a reducer. Thanks.

Have you tried your local dealer?

I ended up going to a local dealer. The parts guy could not have been nicer. The hose is sold by the meter, but I only needed 1 ft; so he gave me the piece free. The inner diameter was actually 3.5mm. I placed the line on and it seemed snug.

The next day I was driving and smelled gas.... The hose was leaking at the fitting. I fellow porsche owner (said he owns three) saw me with the hood up and stopped to help. He had nylon zip ties that secured the line enough for me to get home. I ended up putting the hose clamps from the 3/16 line on and so far so good. I consider myself lucky that I smelled the gas because I was getting ready to go on the highway.... And my wife says I have no sense of smell (she doesn't like the smell of my car... that old air cooled burnt oil smell).

I think you might be using the wrong type of hose for that application. That is the reason for the leak

Uh-oh, be careful dude, the line that you describe is special. It is a half metal half rubber/plastic line. You can't just replace the plastic part. You need to replace the entire line!

I got a new one through Parts Heaven. They went through Porsche. PP doesn't list it. Here a pic of my old one. I am pretty sure this is what you are looking for, right???

Be VERY carefuy. Don't drive the car as it is right now. You are in for an engine fire if you use hose clamps and such! There is only a few inches from the top of the engine onto the heat exchangers!

Good Luck

George

That is exactly the line. But when I cut/burned the plastic/rubber portion off I had ribbed connectors at both ends. It seems because the ends are both ribbed, if I find the right type of soft line I should be ok. Has anybody else ever changed the line without a changeout of the entire line (hard and soft). I am worried and unfortunately I may need to change out the entire line, but this seems like a waste.

I don't know man, the line is $50, why would you start splicing rubber on it? The line is made as a whole with vulcanized on rubber. That rubber isn't just plugged on!!! How many psi does that line see? $50 is nothing, compared to the time you already spent dinking around with it, and it really becomes a meaningless amount of $, compared to your car going up in a balll of flames. Call www.partsheaven.com or your porsche dealer and order the sucker.

I changed mine just because it looked buggered up:

Call me anal, but there are some things where you shouldn't cut corners. Next thing you know, you'll be looking for replacement rubber lines to fix your brake hoses. Kidding, just kidding! ...

I replaced mine with a fuel line out of a VW jetta. The line from the fuel distributor to the WUR from the jetta fit the 911 perfecly. The local pick and pull is full of these cars. Be sure to grab all the fittings all the way from the wur to the fuel distributor.
