The history of your Porsche

I have been searching for the history of the car and wanted to know what is the best way. I am the 4th owner, and know the 2nd and 3rd. So I am trying to find out the original owner who bought the car from the dealer. Do I contact the DMV of the state or is there another way. This is purely for documentation purposes. IT would be cool if they had some pictures or even the sticker. The car is a 1975 Carrera, but it has a '74 2.8L engine with carbs. Why or who did that would be great to know.

I don't know much about any of the previous owners of my car. Not even sure how many there are.

What little I do know about the history of my car mostly came from the CarFax that the selling dealer provided. For example, it showed that my car was originally titled in NY, then it was titled in FL, then IL, then WI, where my dealer purchased it from.

I have no idea how many owners that means. For example, could be the NY & FL titles are for the same owner who moved.

Anyway, a CarFax should provide you some info about what state(s) it has been registered in, but no info about the previous owner(s). And it should provide info about any insurance claims made on the car (e.g., accidents).

Perhaps the POs can give you info going back in time?

As for the sticker, you can purchase a Certificate of Authenticity from Porsche to see the original equipment, MSRP, etc. However, the price for a COA has gone up significantly since I ordered mine & I have seen postings about inaccurate info on the COAs.

Good luck.

There was only one owner prior to me owning the car. He was a really great guy and was a real car nut. He had the 911 and a Corvette. his wife hated the Porsche and wanted him to sell it. His loss was my gain. (dumb bunny)

got old receipts?

write DMV and ask if they will send a letter from you to the PO's - PO's address is protected in most states, but Wash. DMV sent my letter out to POs asking for info - none replied.

I am owner #6 of my car - obviously know #5. Have names for previous ones, but no info on who did what when.

also try PCA

I'm not sure about the history of mine either, but it may have been interesting. After I first brought it home I was giving it a thorough cleaning and found 8 bullet casings under the floor mat for the back seats. I have always been interested about how and why those were there but maybe it is better to keep it a mystery.

For a small fee, your secretary of state office can do a title search and it
will list everyones name, address, ect who has purchased the card from new!

did you mean to type car?

if so, it will depend on your state's privacy act laws.

I can get info from a license plate number for anyone with an Oregon plate, but only b/c I'm an attorney - I have to list the purpose (investigation for a lawsuit, etc.) and swear to it. I'd hate to think what they'd do to me if I lied.

otherwise, you cannot get an address in OR, WA, Calif. from the govt.

I'd be surprised in Mich. allowed this nowadays. Maybe you were able to get that info some years ago?

I paid for a carfax, and while it included recorded significant events like title transfers between owners and states, it did not disclose names, let alone addresses. if that's what yer askin'
