oil cooler installation help

I am having trouble installing the 28-tube cooler in my car. My question is simple: from the pictures below, could someone tell me the correct configuration of the upper mounting bracket / rubber bushing (option #1, option #2, or maybe a third option that I am not aware of)?

original factory bracket

option #1 - rubber bushing mated to factory bracket

option #2 - rubber to mate with cooler

rough installation - does it look close to be in the proper position?

I would think the biggest concern would be to make sure the cooler doesn't rub against anything once everything is all hooked up. If that means rotating the rubber bushing mounting bracket, mounting the bushing to the cooler first then the headlight bucket, or whatever, then do it. Just make sure the cooler doesn't touch anything it shouldn't.

Is that the correct orientation top mount bolt for the 28 tube cooler? That is 90' out from the Carrera cooler mount. In other words, the mounting stud should point straight back, not to the side.

Secondly, are the finned oil lines pushed all the way back in the wheel well? Can you post a pic of the bottom rear where they turn up?

They are supposed to be fully back in the wheel well, there is actually a little channel at the bottom that they drop into. One in front of the other.

Option 3. Bend the factory mounting tab out of the way or cut it off with a dremel. Remove headlight. Drill hole in appropitate spot in back of headlight bucket. Mount as in Option 2, except use new hole and a matching nut and fender washer.

You might want to start sizing up where the cooler should be located by checking for wheel clearance. Disconnect the upper mounting and stuff cardboard and/or newspaper around the cooler to hold it in place (eyeball where it looks like it should go. Remount wheel and put the car on the ground. Check for straight line clearance, and then turn the steering wheel in both directions to check turning clearance. Reposition the cooler until it looks like it's positioned just right. Mark the chassis with a marker or (lightly) with a blade. Jack it back up and attack the mounting again. You may need to follow the advice of flintsone and drill a hole in the headlight bucket for a new mount (that's what I did with my Carerra cooler). Good luck, and remember to measure twice and cut once!

i am with fintstone that bracket looks to lose you about 1" of precious space. drill the hole and stick that rubber bushing directly into the bucket.
