SC Clutch pedal not returning fully...
 

I've got an 82 SC. Recently, my clutch pedal has stopped returning to the top of it's travel. It seems to hang up around the point where the over the center spring kicks in. Any ideas?

I'm slipping my foot under it for now to keep it from ruining my throw out bearing, but I need to fix this.

I had this happen to me as well. It was the roll pin for the clutch pedal. However, mine did this for a very short while before it went to the floor completely and left me stranded.

Something to look at.

My 84 Carrera did this the other day. I removed the mechanicals at the transmission. Both lever arms and the spring, cleaned it all up along with the shaft that works the throw out bearing. Lubricated it with paste silicone (sil-glide from NAPA) reinstalled it and that did it...

Do the adjustment, under the car, that ensures the horseshoe spring is going "over the top." It sounds like you have a handle on that. A search would yield volumes on this. Condensed summary: Remove the cable from the arm under the car, PRY the arm back so the spring goes over the top, make the 1.2mm adjustment at the locking screw, reinstall the cable end and tighten until the measurement is 1.0mm.

In fact I have the same problem on mine as well. Did the adjustment 4 times & its still like that :(

To be clear, in my case, the pedal "dropped" just enough to take away the freeplay but its not actually engaging the clutch.

When I looked at it in details, the horseshoe spring does not return "over the top" for that last 1/4 inch. Can this simply be a weak spring?

If the cable and mechanism are not binding, the likely culprit is the horseshoe/omega type spring. It is very easy to replace. Just make sure you do not put it on backwards.
