Trouble Shooting Temp Gauge Problems

My problems started when I noticed my temp gauge was not working. I went to the sender and found that it actually came apart.

So I bought the update kit with the numbers and installed the new gauge and sender. It still did not work. I let time go by and then I got frustrated. So I just ordered the standard temp sender and installed it along with the original gauge and it is still not working.

What is the deal and how do I trouble shoot the problem? Is it possible that I have the wires switched on the gauge? Are there any associated fuses?

On the back of the gauge there are three male electrical connectors one labeled (+), one labled with the ground sign, and the other labled with a (G). I put the multiple brown wire connector on the ground, the single red connector on the (+), and the lone green wire on the (G) connector.

Is that right?

Thanks for your help

Rodney

Rodney,

If you have the Green/Black wire going to the 'G' connector on the gauge, Red/Black wire to '+', and Brown to the ground connector ... then wiring errors aren't the problem.

The Green/Black wire goes through the 14-pin connector on its' way to the engine wiring harness. That is probably where the problem is! Or the wire could be fractured internally ... within an inch of the Faston crimp! Test end-to-end continuity from sender to 14-pin connector, first!

where is the 14 pin connector?

Rodney,

Left side of your engine compartment, on the relay/electrical panel. Under the black plastic cover.

Sorry,

Dumb question, I just went and checked it, there is continuity, now what?

Rodney,

OK, do you have continuity from the gauge connector to the sender connector?

If so, what happens when you ground the sender connector with gauge connector on, and ignition switch on?
