Steering Rack Parts

Is it possible to get parts for a steering rack? I've removed my rack because of a knock or clunk and found the drive pinion is scarred in several places, one inparticular. The long shaft seems perfect so I wondered if I could replace the drive pinion.

You might try one of the major dismantlers ... but, in general, new parts are MIA!

Careful shopping & sniping on eBay has netted me a couple of racks and aluminum crossmembers in the $100 - $200 range, but you probably are in more of a rush for time ...

I've reviewd the pinion and there is realy just one nick that protrudes from the spline. I hit it with a dremel and it seems to have smoothed out. I greased the rack and pinion and ran manually a few times and it seems smooth and quiet unlike before. I think I'll probably put it back together and see how it goes. If it's no good I can buy a used rack for under $100 or a rebuilt one for $350.
