So what about shipping an engine from Canada to the US??

Hello, I searched the database and could not find info on shipping an engine from Canada to California.

I need to ship a 3.2 from BC Canada to Los Angeles or San Diego. I have looked around at shippers and it is so hard for an individual with no account to get a shipper.

Forwardair is great! Its only $233 from Seattle to Los Angeles. Trouble is the engine is far far away from Seattle, too far to be delivered. Forwardair, as far as I know, do no ship out of BC Canada.

Roadway, they have been the easiest to deal with so far. $447 is what they told me, they have a hub 45 min away from where the engine is and another hub 10 min away from where I live. I'm not all against the $447 quote (only $13 more than shipping to LA). Trouble is they will not insure used machine parts! Bastards!

Can anyone recomend a shipper that does transborder shipments from Canada? One that I do not need an account with. Or is $447 the best I can get?

Also are there any customs charges on an engine like this into the US?? It is used so there is no charge right?? Someone please help me!!!!

Thanks all

Can't help with a shipper, but I had quite a time bringing one into the U.S. in a trailer. They said I was just lucky that it had the engine label on it that indicated that it was U.S. compliant. I have no idea what would have happened if it hadn't been there. The border gaurd was a Porsche nut, and didn't believe the price paid, and luanched into a wild fit. Scared the crap out of me.

If you have it delivered, go ahead and plan on paying 5% of the agreed value. You "shouldn't" have to pay it on used parts, but if the delivery company shows up with a receipt of paying US Customs you'd better have it ready if you want them to leave your parts. Ask me how I know.....I got stuck with this exact thing. The parts arrived from Canada by UPS and they had a receipt for me to pay. If I wanted parts, I paid them. It was upto me to argue it with US Customs which I didn't mess with after all.

I've never had trouble with Roadway shipping by the way. It does suck that I had a car deliverd across the whole country for barely 50% more than your engine.
