Anyone familiar with this car? A friend is interested. I swear I remember seeing it for sale two years ago (when I was looking) by a private seller--maybe the guy who built it? It sounds remarkably sorted out for such a low asking price, so I wonder what's wrong with it. |

Here's my $0.02:
1) Replacing the original MFI with carbs was not an "update". Carb'd engines seem to generate less torque at low and peak RPM's then MFI. Given the small 2.0 engine, this is a meaningful change. 2) The drilled front brakes are all wrong. The holes were drilled in 3 rings with gaps between them. The result is that there portions of the pads that always see the holes and portions of the pads that never see holes. Not the right way to do it. So to get the most from the front brakes, the front disks will need to be replaced. 3) The blacked out trim and SC rear flares detract from the car's value. Now the car looks like the oh-so-common SC rather then the much rarer S that it really is. They also detract from the charm of the early body with all of the brightwork. They describe the car's body as being "Rebuilt to RS spec", but somehow the car doesn't look like an RS to me and I can't put my finger on it. To me is looks more like an SC with early bumpers. I think that it has to do with the shape of the rear flares. 4) Shift handle looks wrong and out-of-charactor. The good news is that the engine seems clean, it has turbo valve covers and tensioner updates. The paint job seems to have been a complete repaint rather then just the outer surface. That being said, where the paint seems to be chipped it appears as if they just painted over the undercoating. I don't know if that is the prefered way to do it, but I'm not sure if I'd do it that way. It looks structurely sound and would most likely be a reasonable entry point into the genuine S club and project car. But the big issues to fix for me would be... * Brightwork * Fender configuration * MFI (Swapping the brake disks back to stock is pretty inexpensive and straight forward)

I know (as well as few other local pelicans) the guys that run this dealer. They are not far from my office.
If you want me to run down there or anything let me know

Doh! Guess I should have looked in the classifieds here first.
I'm interested if anyone knows the history. Like I said, I'm pretty sure this car was for sale for quite a long time back around 2002. I'm concerned that this is like one of those Ebay cars that gets resold every six months as the new owner discovers what they really bought. ![]() |

Rallyjon,
This car was listed for sale on this board by naro914 on 7/08/04. Take a look at the ead.

Hey guys,
naro914 is me, the dealer selling this car. If anyone has any questions, by all means give me a call on it. Just to comment on a few comments: "1) Replacing the original MFI with carbs was not an "update". Carb'd engines seem to generate less torque at low and peak RPM's then MFI." - True, this is not a true "update", but speaking to many mechanics, if the old MFI failed miserably somewhere in it's history, replacing is not cheap. Carbs are a pretty common fix. If you read the description (heck, just look at the pictures) this car is not being represented as a "showroom original 911S". The RS Clone description refers to the door panels, flares (yes, that is what RS flares look like), front/rear bumpers, everythign being stripped out to make it light, etc. We took it on trade-in for another car. Normally, we don't do that, but this car was too nice to pass up, and is a blast to drive. the paint chips below the front valence are chipped to the fiberglass, that's what you see. I am told the car was stripped to repaint. The PO had it for less than a year, and traded it in because he wanted a Cab. He did basically nothing to the car. The guy that he bought it from did all the work out in TN, then sold it when he was finished to start work on another, bigger engined car. "John, it's the tail. Completely throws it off." I agree, it needs a nice duck tail. The reason we are selling it for such a low price is that is what we gave him as credit for the trade in. We just want to sell it and move on. Its a very nice, solid car. Again, it is not "original" in many details, but it is still a great car to drive and have fun with. Street comfortable, but ready to go out on the track. Honestly, if it doesn't sell before my 914 race car is finished with the engine rebuild, this may become my own Drivers Ed car for a while..
