I was 10, and my dad bought me a leather jacket that said Porsche on the sleeve. I could not even read it correctly, and didn't know what they looked like. When I finally saw and heard one, I was hooked. My wife saw the way I looked for the cars when I heard the sound as they drove past my shop. One day while lost, I stopped by a Porsche dealership in my beater $300 truck, and the guy must have seen something, as usually noone gives me the time of day when I am driving that thing. I explained the one I wanted 1986 Gaurds Red Convertable. Forgot about it, and 3 months later I get a call out of the blue, with a line on a 1989 convertable with the turbo look at a decent price. He had it shipped to Nagasaki, and my wife purchased it as a fathers day present.
My only regret is not purchasing one earlier. |

When I was 17, a friend drove up in his uncles brand new white SC. Thinking about it, I believe it was a 79SC because it had black window trim. It was the acceleration, the ride, the body style! When visiting a friend when I was about 23, the guy across the street opened his garage and slowly rolled out a 930. Love that wide tail. At 27, I purchased a 78SC and realized my dream. Sold her to buy a house. In 2000, I purchased the 88 Carrera Cab. I'm planning (really addictively need) a 993 or 996 in a few years. I'm getting excited just writing about this. Thanks for the memories.

First ride in a P-car was in a time trial race in Dallas when I was about 9 yrs. old. That did it for me. After that, life revolved around getting girls and cool cars. Got a '71 BMW 2002 first, but still lusted after a 911.
A little over 3 yrs. ago, I was going to check out a 964 in NJ, which sold just before I got to the shop. Got a DUI that same night and figured my Porsche dreams were shattered for many more years. Prosecutor agreed to keep it off the books and let me just pay the fines. Once that was taken care of and I knew the insur. co. would never find out, I went shopping and got my '87 Carrera. In fact, I brought that car home a day or two after a terrible girlfriend and I split, so it was a very nice way to land on my feet. |

 Here is my story:
I was about 10. Riding in the car with my grandparents down a two lane highway. Traffic in our lane was heavy, but moving about 60 mph. There was a small break in oncoming traffic. Suddenly I hear a car overtaking us, passing in the oncoming lane. The sound it made was strange; kinda like whirrling fans. I looked over to see a odd looking car. The driver was pushing it hard as he attempted to overtake several cars at once. The motor screamed as he passed us, straining, racing into fast approaching oncoming traffic. He wasn't backing off and it was getting tense. Real tense. I thought it might be a head on collision. At what seemed the last possible second, the odd looking car swerved in front of us and the oncoming traffic came through like a freight train. My grandmother gasped with exasperation. When she regained composure she said "That's how they make Angels"! I thought to myself how risky the move was. Then how incredibly cool it was. With the next break in traffic another sports car passed and dropped in with the first, this time with less drama. Soon they were gone. That first car captured my imagination. It looked strange and sounded strange. I don't recall the color, but I do recall the large "Porsche" stripe under the door. Even more striking was that these drivers were dicing it up, this wasn't about transportation. They were out having fun, the cars were like sporting equipment to be played with. |

When I was about 8 - living in Indiana - my best friend had a birthday party. His dad owned a big construction company so he had a big to do. Anyway - he and his Dad picked me up in a bright orange and back 914 - I remember us sharing a seatbelt as he ran through the gears and blasted through a curvey hilly road. We were laughing and giggling because we could not hang on to the side of the car as we went around corners.
For my friend's birthday - they took us all on a helicopter ride (his Dad's too). I remember the Porsche ride more than the Helicopter! |

When I was six I got a green 930 3.0 toy car that I really liked a lot. Around the same time I got a set of car playing cards with Porsches only. Around 8 years of age I made Porsche "my" car without really knowing. At school the other guys liked Ferrari and Lamborghini leaving me as the only one defending the Porsches... I liked Porsches and it just got stuck with me. The enthusiasm kept growing with time until I rode in a 1976 Carrera 3,0 at the age of 17. From that moment I knew I HAD TO HAVE A 911 NO MATTER WHAT :)

first porsche memories go back to when i was 7 , when i had a Darda racing track, and my best one was an anthracite black targa...
then i had a Jouef slot track, and my best 3 cars where typical 70ties orange and green 911 coupe... and a 917 #21 in Gulf paint... after that , seeing the RSR's go nuts in my home town year after year... it lasted till they cancelled group B out of the rally's .. and the 4wd cars were no fun to watch... they don't slide around corners at speed, they brake, go around corner, and accelerate, unlike the RWD 400 HP + group B cars.. i never went to watch the rally since... even though it was in my home town... i went to the historic rally instead...the real deal in the end... i got my real life anthracite Metallic black Targa...with the silver roll bar... just like the one on my Darda track... |

this is cool. the common theme is it started young and seems to have been scortched into our minds.

For me I was about 2 or 3 and My dad took me for a ride in the familys new "weekend car" A 1957 356. That car included mouse traps on the rear carpets. That car was so cool(a little rusty)and drew a lot of attention. I always new from that point on I wanted one(not because of the mouse traps) . My dad and I restored about 4 or 5 porsches from 3 on (mostly I watched) I do remember My dad spent countless hours tuning the carbs. I never lost the bug And now my dad has a 64 356SC and I the 911 and the 914-6

My love for the car started when I was young (what age I can't recall exactly) but I was absolutely in love w/the DP935 and I have always loved them, but they have always seemed unobtainable (why? I have no Idea). It wasn't until recently that a friend of mine was searching for one, and was talking to me about his searches, that I became aware that I could actually become an owner. So Now I finally realized my dream ( I only wish that I had acted sooner on this dream) and one day I will have my turbo too.
I find that I am looking for excuses to run to the store or to go somewhere for something just so I can drive my car, I absolutely love my 911. |

My love for the marque? My first corgi car when I was a little kid. A 906, I still have it! When I went to my first PCA event, I saw a real one, and was "dude, you have my car!"
When I was 8 my dad get a new VW bug, and I always loved the lines of that car..so liking the 911 was a natural progression.. |

It had to be around 1958 or 59. My dad, a geologist in Wichita Falls Tx. had a batchelor buddy who had literally wrapped his Porsche around a telephone pole. My dad brought home a Polaroid picture and showed us. My dads friend was kind of an outlaw in that he drank (gasp), had a cool sports car etc. I talked my dad into taking me to the shop where they were attempting to repair the car. The passenger side had taken the brunt of the impact so I crawled into the drivers side. The smell of the leather, the entire vibe. I was hooked. Then in the early 70's a frat buddy had a 71S. He took me for a ride on some wild ass roads and I was hooked again. My wife and I are waiting in line to see the movie Star Wars. There was a 76 Turbo parked in the lot. The high school kid in front of us was talking about it like he owned it. Sure enough, his dad owned the dealership and had given this kid the car for his 16th birthday. Then in the summer of 85 I got my 76 Turbo which is still in the family. In 91 we added a 356S which is now an Outlaw with a heavily breathed on Maestro motor. Next? Looking for a 97tt.

I was 17, and me and my friend drove passed the Porsche Dealership in Oakland. Cool cars out front, I thought, so I did a u-turn and walked in. Immediately the guy walkks up to me in my overalls and long hair and asks if he can help me. Just looking, I said, I coulkdn't afford the wheels on one of these. I didn't know it then, but how right I was.
The guys says that's OK, maybe not now, but someday maybe you can afford it and then you'll come see me. Gave me a business card, and every brochure they had. The real brochures with thick glossy paper and color photos galore. I'll never forget that guy. Of course he never made a sale from me, but I looked at every Porsche on the road from that day on. Went to college, and my dorm walls were covered with the pictures. Most eneded up missing. EVEYONE loved those lines. So I get a real job and almost immediately buy an orange 1970 911T out in Hayward. Only spun out once. $$$$$!!!!!! Somewhere in the Bay Area that T is probably still cruising (613BPG, I'll never forget the plate) but that's OK. Now I have my 81 SC Targa which is really what I wanted in the first place. Took it to Tahoe last weekend with the top off. While having lunch I watch a man and woman in their sisxties walking around my car, just looking. I know what he was thinking,,,,I could have, should have, had one when I was younger. People still love the lines. Does it really get any better than this? Brian |

This stuff is making me think of all the kids who hang around when our NoVA gang wrenches. Some of the guys in our clique have kids with almost as much exposure to Porsches by the age of 6 as I have now at 33. I wonder what they'll end up driving.

Early 60s. I was 10 years old, sitting in the shade in the opening of the big barn, just after the hay had been put in, just looking out over the fields. When I heard the engine, I knew it sounded sort of like a Beetle.. but different. In a second or two, I picked out a small blue coupe following the river road, getting closer. In a hurry, it seemed. The shape was related to the Beetle too, but sort of like the Bug had gone too fast and some of it bad worn away. I knew the driver would have to slow down for the bend near the farm. I was prepared for the downshift, but not for the throttle application which lifted the nose of the small blue coupe and sent it rocketing past me, over the bridge and out of sight. I didn't even know what it was, until my brother-in-law returned from Europe with slides of the places he'd seen. In one slide was a small coupe. A Porsche 356.
Within a few years, I found myself pulling out magazine ads and pinning images of 911s to my wall, thinking, "Some day... I'll have one" So, out in my garage is one of the most beautiful and memorable automotive shapes to grace the planet. Sure, its 35 years old and I don't push it (too) hard. But my "some day" is now. I had seen the 911 a few times on TV and on the road, but I really got hooked in college when my brother and I picked up the computer game, "Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed". We spent HOURS and HOURS playing that, beat every track/race there was. Started collecting Porsche posters after that while I finished college and got a job. Then I started looking around for a decent 911. Didn't find one good enough to test drive and then after about a year, found a good one, test drove it, had it inspected, and bought it. That test drive was the first time I'd driven a 911. Wow! These cars are so much fun!
