Whale tail or not to whale tail?
That is the question
I bought a 82SC. PO bought a hood with a tail, got it painted and put it on the car. It looks good. no no It looks damn good! So, I have a hood with and without a tail and was wanting some feedback on which to put on. I'm leaning on putting the hood on without the tail. I like the clean smooth look, but then again their's nothing like that big whale tail in back. Jesse

make sure you have a front chin spoiler on as well if you're gonna
keep the whale tail... I'd suggest leaving it on until you get tired of it, then switch back if you really want to.

I like both looks. I always said when I got my 911 it'd have to have a tail. I found a great deal on one the car I bought, and it was tail-less. I have now really come to like the clean look.
I recently picked up a Carrera tail on eBay but made sure I got one with a decklid - that way I can put on which ever I feel like. Go tail-less for a while. Then, if you get tired of that, put the tail back on. IOW, do both - at least that's my plan.

I only like the Whale tale on wide body cars -- go for clean smooth back no tail look!

Mine came without a tail. Bought a lid & tail and tried it out. I vote for the tail, I also have 17" Cups 255/40's to balance it out. But it looks good on yours. But it is your car.

Tails suit dark colored cars. I think yours looks good with the tail.
Light colored cars normally look better without the tail.

Actually that's not a Whale tail, it's a turbo tail. THe whale tail is what the early turbo and IROC tails were.
Personally I like tails on em, but I like em without too. For me it's all about function. The tail (with the front spoiler) makes the car more stable at highway speeds, and looks good. Thats two pro's, now for the cons.... Nope, can't think of any, guess a tail it is!

I prefer the Carrera whale tale in the look dept.
However I think that turbo tale looks better than no tale.

Those things are HEAVY. I'd go with no tail unless you need the downforce (track/autobahn).

Heck, it's a Porsche. I say go all out. You sure ain't gonna put one on the mini-van, but for a 911, you only live once--go for it!

I am a fan of the "no tail" look, particularly on coupes. On my cab I think the lines are slightly different and it looks OK. Looks really good with the top down - which is most of the time on my weekender!

I personally like the tail. But if you have both lids one w/ and one w/out, I don't see what the problem is. use the one that suits you now and change to the other later. There is that sleek look to the car w/o a tail, But I say keep it on.

black is sweet! Vash Everyone thinks it's black, it's dark blue. I went to http://www.adelgigs.com/911scregistry.shtml and I gave him the color code and said it's Pacific blue metallic. Until someone tells me different that's what I'll call it. Thanks all for your opinions. I'll do what KCPSG says, I'll switch out when I feel the need to. \ Jesse
