I have a 1984 911. The last couple days, my fuel gauge has been jumping around from the correct reading to pegging at full tank. It stuck at full for a full day, but now it's jumping up and down again. Any suggestions on troubleshooting and sequence of trouble shooting? Sounds like a bunch of folks have had various problems with their sending units. Should I start there?
Thanks for any input. ![]() |

Yep!
When you inspect the sender ... you want to look for corrosion on the Nichrome wires, and loose slidewire contacts. Both conditions can be remedied.

I have a similar problem, sometimes my tank reads 1/2 full for no reason, when I know I have less gas, more like 1/8 to 1/4 tank. But adding gas or driving around - I'm not sure which - seems to fix it till the next time.
Same diagnosis? |
