Anyone know where i can get my fan refinished to brushed steel?

Just ordered a new OEM one and the paint finish was rather rough and crude. Thinking that a brushed steel look might be better than powder coating it.

The magnesium fan just looks that way, other than powder coating it silver I'm not sure if you can get it to look like brushed steel.

Magnesium? Does anyone know if the fan housing comes painted or is unfinished? Thanks KR!

Here's mine after about 2 hr's of polshing. It might be brighter than your looking for but does have the brushed look. I used a wire wheel on a drill followed by 400 grit sandpaper.

Looks great, did you need a vise when utilizing the wire wheel/drill? I take it sanding was done all in one direction? Did you do the back side as well? Thanks for the pic!

I didn't need a vise...although that would be handy. I started with a 2" wheel but then went to the store and picked up a 4" I think I ended up with. That way I could reach down between the blades without the shaft hitting. I did both sides. I tried to keep the rotation and the sanding the same direction. I finished with a high temp. clear coat. I used high temp. black paint for the housing. It was alot easier than I thought it would be. I ended up doing the same for the coil bracket. Hope this helps.

Hey 89Speeder,

You might want to consider the powder coating route if you want a longer lasting finish. I had mine powder coated in Feb 01 ~15K miles ago and it still looks great. I had the shroud down in want they called chrome, a silver with a clear top coat and the fan done in black.

Thanks, I'm still considering it. Contemplating a silver fan, black housing and red magnecores . . . or maybe the housing in silver???

Hi 89Speedy,

That's just the opposite of what I did. I'll try to post a picture of my engine compartment. I've since axed the cone filter and gone back to the original air box.

- Don't worry, it will be a lot less bright soon - unless you powdercoated it clear. Very nice job of shining it up, tho.
