Porsche wont start
Havent "turned her on" since the end of May...now I step in, after of course spraying the doorsill down with hornet/wasp killer (they had the side of the car infested, hope this didnt hurt the paint?), the car wont even start.
Turning the key does not even turn the engine over once, but the lights and cd player with subs and amp connected all work fine (i.o.w. battery seems fine) Any ideas? I dont quite feel like dropping another $1500 to find out "oh gee, after all those extensive labor hours it was the silly reference sensor, a 10$ part) THANKS! -Matt (1986 911 Coupe, 91K miles, bone-stock) |

oh one more thing, if infact it is the battery, because the engine sure sounds as though the battery is dead, even though the interior lights beg to differ...
ive never jump started a porsche (or any german car for that matter), is it the same basic thing as jumping a chevy?? -Matt |

I had the same problem just this last Sunday - I got it jumped by my wife just like any other car and it started right up.
(I left the lights on) so the Amp's wernt high enough for the sensitive starter coil to crank over. I was told Porsche Carreras are very fineky about the Amp's in a battery to start.

Matt,
Though mine is not a Carrera. I had a similar issue this Spring. It was an intermittent deal. I would get good lights, radio, and I could hear the fuel pump come online but when I turned the key, nothing, no clicking or turning over, nothing. I push started it and she started for a while then would not. It was a good battery and checked all the ground wires. I got her up on jacks to look at the starter and noticed some of the insulation on the wire going to the starter was worn/eaten (mouse?). I clipped it, stripped it and put new connectors on and she has started great ever since.

I would check the battery with a voltage regulator. It doesn't take much to turn on lights for a short time, or radio, but it does take some amperage to crank the starter.

The battery could have enough juice to run smaller systems like the lights, but not enough to fire up the ignition system. If it starts with a jump, I'd say battery first, then charging system second.

If you haven't run it for two months, nor charged the battery, that's the place to start. Don't try to charge it with the alternator after jump-starting the car. Get a trickle charger and let the batterty charge overnight. You should be good to go in the morning.
