3.6 conversion part II
I have the engine ready to go into the car with a fresh sachs
power clutch and Timmins flywheel. I am going to install it in the morning. Here are a few of the pics of finished engine ready to go into the car. I did the engine mounting bar mods myself. We will see how close I am when I put it in on saturday. I hope that I cut away enough sheet metal on the engine tin. I also added some sheet metal up front by where the power steering pump used to be. After I get it into the car I still need a few more things to get it back on the road. New CV's K & N filter Oil tube from right side to S tube Fuel lines Mount oil cooler up front and lines Here are a few pics of engine....

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1091211275.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1091211302.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1091211327.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1091211356.jpg |
so are you going to get that heater tube from Thom?
|
Yeah probably am. One thing though. My distributor did not
come with the fresh air plug. Where can I get one of these.. |
dang, everybody is doing a 3.6 drop lately. I hate to ask, but how deep are you? It seems you've gone pretty light on the upgrades, no cams, etc.
|
Yeah I am pretty deep so no major mods for me except a
autothority chip and K & N filter, cat with no muffler... |

Looks good, what oil line are you planning to use to connect to the oil pump on the drivers side of the block? |

I am probably going to use the pipe from timmins. I am getting
parts sort of one at a time to try and save money if possible. Do you have a solution to the oil pipe to S hose? I am using factory hard lines on the left side to oil thermostat. The main thing that I am worried about is the wiring right now. I dont want to fry my dme or anything else out. Can anyone help me out on the wiring. I bought a timmins harness so from the dme forward I am ok but on the 14 pin engine connector and the factory 14 pin connector on my car I am a little hazy.... |
are you talking about the pipe you have to extend from the motor, if so i have one you can have, FREE, just make sure we are talking about the right pipe, Kevin
|
Kevin
The pipe I need extends from the right side of the engine and far enough to attach to the S hose to the oil tank. Is this what you have? I will pay for shipping... I need a power steering block off too.. |
There are 3 choices of the right side pipe, straight, angled up and the B&B ss S hose replacement, which you use depends on the exhaust, w/ stock 993 headers just modify the stock one, w/ B&B headers use the angled(that's what I did) or use the B&B S hose replacement. There are pics in Craig's recent swap thread.
The only issue w/ the facory hardline to the oil pump on the left is that it runs right by the block oil filter making an oil filter change a bit more of a project. That's what I have as well. Tyhere are 2 filters that can be used on the block., I have found that the short one is easier to change. I need to look up the # on that. As far as the pins go, contact Steve, as long as you are buying parts from him I'm sure that he can help. He just did my '76 C3 to 993 last year. |
Bill
I would modify the stock one only the place where I bought my engine did not include it. :( I might try and source a used one, along with a throttle cable as that did not come with it either... |
Hi,
from the pictures it looks like you cut down the rear engine tin a bit much, on mine i did not cut i at all I just shortend the whole thing about 2 cm and it fits just right not my pickture but mine look very similar http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1091291132.jpg |
It's in!!
With a little help from 4 buddies and 1 hour later its in...
The install went very smooth. Just solve a few electrical hitches and I will be back on the road again... Here are some pics of the engine back in the carhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1091338587.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1091338634.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1091338667.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1091338703.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1091338730.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1091338760.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1091338783.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1091338803.jpg |
Anyone that has done this conversion email me I have some
electrical questions on the install... warpspd@ipa.net |
Looks great... what are you going to do for a muffler?
|
Has anyone ever used screw on barbed fittings for the fuel lines?
I found some at Roy Rogers that I am going to try instead of sourcing them from a 3.6 litre car. I only have a few bucks in them and if they dont work then I will move on. These fitting that I bought are for fuel injection applications so they should work. I will post some pics of the fittings and lines later. Is there any reason the my stock filter from a 76 911 wont work for the conversion. I mean a filter is a filter right? It is rated at pressure as it was for the cis injection.... |
Congrats on the project.
The CIS fuel filter is rated for higher pressures than most other FI filters. |
If the filter is rated for higher pressures does this mean it will flow differently? I know that on the cis injection you have to run the fuel
pressure accumlator to keep the pressure up but I ditched it and going to run just the filter strait through. |
Here are a few pics of the fuel lines and fittings minus
hose clamps
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1091473498.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1091473623.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1091473637.jpg I have another problem with the O2 sensor plug in. On the engine harness it has a plug but on the sensor it just has four wires. I dont know which is which?
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1091473704.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1091473715.jpg |
