Can transmission fluid bubble the paint?

Hi,
I just found that my car suffered an accident while at the garage my mechanic is telling that me the car above mine on the hoist dripped transmission fluid and that bubbled my paint on the RightFront fender, hood and door...

Apart that the garage will have to pay for the paint job...

Is this possible? I thought the only fluid that can do that to a car was battery acid and brake fluid...

Please let me know your thoughts...

Thanks
-J

I agree, seems a little odd that tranny fluid could bubble paint, but who knows maybe it was ATF, that Dexron stuff. I don't think our 911's tranny fluid, being 80w-90 oil, could bubble paint, but maybe another different tranny fluid could.

Automatic transmission fluid seal conditioner contains brake fluid which swells the seals. Thats how the conditioners work. However the seals soon fail after they turn to mush after a month or two of exposure to the brake fluid. Basically if the car that was above yours had an additive added to the tranny then it may be possible. Either way if they are paying for the damage theres no reason to question them for doing the right thing. As you can see below I am no stranger to stacking cars either.

Maybe the car on the upper hoist was not a 911. BMW's use ATF in the trans, for example.

Maybe your right. I could have been a 1973 AMC Matador with factory rally wheels and a floor shifter with buckets.
