value of RS clone

Any thoughts on what a really rough RS clone would sell for?

I saw one recently with a nice-sounding single pugged 2.7L engine, flares, and a duck. The paint job was horrible and it has overspray on the engine, and in the trunk. It has RSR type flares on it.

Any thoughts on what that would go for?

Bad paint subtracts from the value. You can live with tired paint, that's patina. Bad paint and overspray need to be removed and done right. They probably did an amatuer job on the flares as well. Look real close before you get involved with this one. What year is the car?

My first thought is - if they went uber cheap on the paint job, what kind of work did they do one the engine? What was the base car?

my mechanic built one up. he took his time and ended up with a car that made my heart hurt. like when i look at ashley judd. he was offered 35k for the car and he accepted. but admittedly, i cant remember what the car started as, but it was an early 911. his next car just got back from the body shop. i heard he got the early 911 body for $700. i will try to get a picture of the 35k car at the next autoX. it is sooooo nice. done right, they are damn expensive. maybe cantdrv55 already has a picture?

I say 30-45k for a good one but depends on the engine mods. (single or twin plugged, what kind of elec. ignition, pistons, cylinders rocker arms etc..) and body (steel, FG or CF.) also to consider brake upgrade and suspension.

So each car has very particular price. Cris h used to have good cars for around 40k http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/154473-69-911-rsr-conversion.html but I remember the race group sold one for 80k so it's very dificult to answer your question.

I am not about to buy it - in fact, it already sold - via eBay to a guy in Chacago for about $30,000. The wheels are really great (at least cosmetically), and it has carbs. I think it was a '73.

From what Y bird says maybe the price was reasonable. I have about $30k in mine and the paint is better and the engine is way more powerful (no flares or ducktail tho). Looking at that car, I thought if I was the buyer I would be really pissed when I saw it (but I don't know it was described on eBay).

Do you have a link to the ebay add?

I'm amazed that a clone would fetch so much money. It would seem that anytime you take an early car and make something that it is not, that the car looses value, not gain. Makes me wonder what my car may be worth. Although it is not a rs clone, it has a lot of rs parts. I look at my car being worth no more then 10 grand. Heck, maybe it's worth more then I think????
