Where do these wires go? 1971 911 s
I took of the wiring and I didn't have a complete set of pictures to see where the wiring gets reconnected. This is for a '71 911 s with Webers. I looked in my Haynes (eww) manual and I was unable to determine their connection points.
Please help This is a picture of the stater solenoid. I currently have the red power wire and the yellow wire connected. I don't know if the yellow wire is connected to the right connector though. ![]() This is a pic of the oil pressure sender unit. I currently have the red/ green wire connected here. I believe this is correct from the Hayne's manual. I don't know where the red/ white wire that is laying on top of the sender unit gets connected though. ![]() Lastly, I have one more wire that looks as though it gets connectd to a bolt because of the connector end. It is yellow/ blue wire. Any ideas? ![]() Thank you for your help. Zac

I'm not sure what those tabs on top of the solenoid are for. Which of the big terminals has a strap running into the unit?
The Gr/Red wire looks right - all the oil sensors have striped wires with green in them - it shouldn't kill anything if they are wrong. Just check the gauges to see if they are correct. |

Maybe the red and white wire is actually red/grey. I looked at the wiring diagrams and they don't look like the connections could really match where these wires may connect to due to their length. Still lokking for help.
Help me ![]() zac

On the solenoid the large screw terminal closest to the starter has the strap running to it. The red power wire is connected to the other screw terminal.

Ok, sounds like that is correct. (I think the strapped terminal is the ground - which runs to the trans. case and body).
Is that diagram posted the one for your exact year? Also, what components are near the blue/yellow wire - could it possibly go to gnd and not be colored brown? |

The posted diagram above isn't correct for a '71!
The correct diagram below is from Pelican's Electrical Diagrams page ... ![]()

For at least some years - Green/Red is the oil press. sender (pin 4 on engine connector with 14 pins).
This is an example of why you need to mark every wire before pulling stuff apart. Also, mark them so the labels won't come off (ask me how I know that). |

I agree with marking the wires. It seems so easy when pulling them off to remember where they will go back to.
As long a s I have the yellow electrical wire connected to the started correctly I will see what doesn't work when I start the car. Does the yellow wire look as though it is on the correct solenoid terminal? Thanks

Can't tell from the pic if the yellow wire is connected to the red wire or not. It should be connected to the spade terminal on the top side of the solenoid if memory serves me correctly. It definitely should not be connected to the terminal the red wire is connected to.

On my hig torque Tilton type starter, the yellow wire goes to the bottom (and only) spade terminal. It definitely should not be connected to the terminal the red wire is connected to.

when you get it figured out use your digital camera next time and you won't have to go thru this . i shot all the wires under the dash and the gauges before ripping in to it and what a difference it made.
