Question '72 Fender emoval - Tank Filler Boot?

Listers,

I am attempting to remove the drivers side fender from my '72. I can't figure out how to get the boot around the filler neck off. It appears to be held in place by a very stout snap ring but I can't find a split in the ring to start from.

What is the trick? I have already damaged the nasty dry old boot (hope that isn't a $100 part) but I would prefer to remove it the right way.

BTW, hats off to the Gruppe B guys, I'm joining up.

Thanks,
Bill

There's a split ion the snap ring. Keep looking. By the way, it comes out much easier then it goes back in.

Thanks for the tip. I will cut a bit out of the ring before I put it back in. That should make reinstallation much easier. There is no reason it needs to be that tight.

I can't really help you with your problem, but here's a club you can join also...since you have a '72.
