Porsche Crest "Brown wire" question

Question to the 911 guru's please...I have an 85 3.2 Carrera, and have heard that if you disconnect the "brown wire" under the drivers seat, you will improve performance. Is this true, and if it is, how does it work?
P.S. I searched on "brown wire", but none of the post seem to answer my question.
Thanks again for fielding my newbie questions...
Paul

The common convention for any German-car's wiring would be brown=ground.

There is, however, a small plug/wire that runs alongside the main harness that goes to the DME computer under the seat. Some versions have this connected...some don't,depending upon the intended market.
I think this was discussed on this board before...

I think the brown wire is connected for "california" cars, and makes
the car run slightly leaner. Supposedly, if you disconnect the wire
you will get slightly improved performance...

Thank you to all who responded...
Rick, the link you provided really answered my question...Leave the wire alone; get a Steve W. chip.
Thanks again group!

Actually, if you check Steve's site - I believe that he instructs all and sundry to disconnect the brown "california harness"...
