Fuchs Clarification

Just curious about something...

I was looking in the PET and it stated that 84-89 Carrera's came stock with 6 & 7 15" wheels

951s came with 7 & 8 16" wheels

I didn't see any listing for any stock 16" 911 wheels.

Were they available? Where did the 9x16 come from?

Thanks.

The standard wheel fitment was originally 6&7 x 15" Telephone dials (in the UK at least) - option was 7&8 x 16" Fuchs.

In '88 std wheel fitment changed to 7&8 x 15" Fuchs - still with the option of 7&8 x 16" Fuchs.

Finally in '89 std wheels were 6&8 x 16" Fuchs.

As for the 9 x 16" Fuchs, these were std fitment on the rear of the Turbo (from '77 I think) & were also available on the 'Turbo Look' Carrera 3.2 option (7&9 x 16" Fuchs).

Interesting. So 9x16 fuchs were only made for 3 years, (86-89). You would think they would be much rarer. Goes with the theory that they are still making them.

I think that they may have infrequently made a run of several different versions of the Fuchs. At some point that will stop if it hasn't already. When I bought mine in '89 I bought new unsed still in the box versions, they weren't all that expensive.

Here is a page from my 86 owners manual.

Bill Verburg got it right. But I think it was even possible to buy other wheel sizes on an individual basis.

It's my impression that Porsche has produced Fuchs wheels occasionally when they "felt like it".

I thought several years of turbos got 9's on the rears?

I just looked it up to make sure. From august 1985 (1986 model) and on the Turbos had 9x16 with 245/45. Prior to that they had 8x16 with 225/50. I think this is where all the 8x16 come from :) Especially here in Europe (Germany in particular) the 7 & 8x16 setup is very very popular.
