Jerry:

I am surprised to hear that you had a bad experience with Autobahn. When I got my car repaired there a couple of years ago I had a very pleasant experience. The quality of the repair was excellent and dealing with the staff was great.

I actually got two recommendations for shops back then I after talking to both owners it was a very tough decision, but Autobahn was just around the corner from me at the time.

I would actually use them again. Sorry to hear about your bad experience with them.

Cheers....

If your going to bash them, you should at least be specific about your specific "incident" if there even was one.

I'm serious! This is a very trickiy area for me since I know nothing about paint and body work, let alone shops.

I was in the same boat when I was looking for a shop. Best thing to do is get 2 to 3 recommendations (hopefully close to your area) and go and talk to the shop managers/owners to get a comfort level with them. You'll know from that conversation (and possibly a tour of their facility) who you would feel comfortable with and the type of operation that they have.

Good luck!

I'm trying to figure out why i would make a statement that" they are a poor excuse for a body shop" if i had never been there. Yes i had an "incident" a few years back. The job that was supposed to take only a week, took more than three weeks. They said they were waiting on a part that was hard to find and i got on the phone and found it in 10 minuets within 10 miles of the shop. When i got my car back it was filthy on the inside because it had been sitting in the shop for 3 weeks with the windows down. After getting it home i started checking other things and found numerous nuts and bolts that were loose or missing completly. The repair also called for 4 new tires because all were flat spotted in the spin. The body shop subed the tire replacement out to a local tire shop by just sending the rims. When i got the car back it had an awful shimmy in the front end so i went to the tire shop{Grand Prix} in Costa mesa and asked to have the tires rebalanced and they would'nt do it free because they were on the car and they didn'nt install them on the car . I would have to take the wheels off and give them to the body shop and have them take them to the tire shop for rebalance which i would'nt do. The whole story is rather long and boring so thats why i did'nt go into it on my first post. I would never reccomend that place to anyone.

I'd say that experience rates a, "Poor excuse for a bodyshop." However, it does sound typical for a bodyshop.
I do have an additional observation though...Why do some posters get your panties in a bunch, when someone expresses an opinion based upon their own personal experience?

Ever have a "Body Shop" give your car keys to a homeless person....who drove the car around .....and lived in it?

That's a poor excuse for a body shop....

Not so. My B-in-law works at a body shop in Laguna Nigel where manyof the new car dealers don't have body shops due to zoning or whatever. These dealers send the work over to the 'existiing' bodyshops on Forbes Rd., apparently allowed to exist for some reason. Not the point.

If they were to return these cars dirty, or less than perfect, for that matter, business would no longer be forthcoming from the dealers. Most cars leave there better than they were before their accident. Completely detailed. If you knew the type of people who live in So Orange County, you would understand why. Can you say nouveau riche? I used to live there and had to get out. Again, not the point.

Panties? I'd say it's fair to ask why someone is unhappy, don't you?

Well I just dropped it off, it was conforting to see a bently and a Rolls Royce being worked on as well as a couple other 6 figure cars there. Facility looked good, not messy, sothat tells me they take time with details. We will see.......

I was refering to the comment "if there even was one" as if i would make up a story to bash a business.

Milt-
I was about to take offense at your comment as I live in South OC, but then I stepped back and thought, "Oh yeah, he's right." I've lived here for 5 years (came from PA) and I consider myself lucky to live in one of the enclaves that is relatively free of the nouveau riche attitude. I'd love to tell you where it is, but it's a secret

Sorry Zeke,
I believe you missed my point...I agreed that the type of service rendered was drastically substandard, and further noted that this type of work seems to be, business as usual, for a great number of body shops.
I also noted that in the same post, someone took exception to another member expressing his "opinion" regarding a specific bodyshop. I was wondering why this person took the berating of the bodyshop, personally.
Sorry; apparently something got lost in the translation...
Cheers,
Paul
