Replaced rear shocks at the weekend

Replaced the rear dampers on my 88 Carrera at the weekend. Car was fitted with Boge sport dampers which I have replaced with Bilstein units in 'fast road' spec (from Autofarm in the UK).

Had to use my trolley jack to 'break' the lower mounting bolts - thanks for the tip!

The car now feels much, much better. I was planning on replacing the front units in a couple of weeks, but it's now obvious that the front of the car 'crashes' in to bumps. The rear units seemed to be shot even though the car has less than 49000 miles on the clock.

I'm now very keen to do the front!

Only downside (which I expected) is that the car sits high - more SUV than 911. My plan is to do the front, replace the rubbish track rod ends (part of a Turbo upgrade kit fitted a year ago by the PO - gaiters already split) and then have the ride heights and alignment sst by a specialist.

I found that the rear dampers did a world of good to tame my car. The fronts changed the ride quality but didn't increase the roadholding that I could tell.

If it is "crashing in" then maybe they are really dead then the normal Bilsteins will make a good difference. The front doesn't need the firmness that the rear does.

Garage
Uk,
Just went through this myself. Your fronts are probably worse then the rears. It's probably easier to replace the fronts then the rears so I'd dive in. Ride quality and handling improvements are tremendous.
