Insurance Recommendations
I'm reducing the amount of driving on my Targa (sad to say) from about 8,000 miles per year to probably 5,000 so thought I would switch coverage for the car. I've been searching the web and see lots of choices at pretty attractive rates for classic cars where the owner sets the value and limits the mileage. Any recommendations on a compnay would be appreciated. Leland has a qoute of $334 per year with minimal coverage which sounds good.
Other reason to do this is my 19 year old daughter is returning home for a semester and with her on the policy she is listed as a driver on all cars so she alone costs over $3,000 even though she has a spotless record.

My research pointed to Haggerty. Some here like them and some don't...I suppose you would get that response with most insurance companies.
However, you will not be able to drive to work. If your daughter is living at home that may pose a problem.

Last time I looked, your car needs to be a certain age for Hagerty. My 85 was too new

Ask the companies to provide you with a specimen policy. Read them carefully. The collector car policies have become much more stringent very recently. Make sure you can live with the conditions.

A son living at home could pose a problem. Daughter no but she does pester me from time to time to teach her how to use a manual shift. Teaching her how to drive it I will leave to a DE instructor some day soon 'cause I sure can't.

Make sure that you can live within the conditions of the policy. Also it would help to gain the confidence of a local insureance agent that represents the company.
Grundy. Haggerty and Leland West come to mind. I have a local rep for Haggerty so I chose them. Good luck David Duffield Last edited by Oldporsche; 07-19-2004 at 04:51 PM.. |

Does Grundy or Leland West have less restrictions than Haggerty? In the summer I'd like to be driving my Porsches to work 2-3 days per week. It's 10 miles, I go in at non-commute times and park in an empty private parking lot with no other cars. I work at a school so nobody is there in the summer. Even I'm not there for half the summer.

None of the collector car insurance coverages allow you to drive to work.
If you find one please let me know. Regarding the son/daughter in your household and of driving age: It's not that they may drive the car but many insurance companies will either penalize you (premium wise) or not offer coverage.
