modified cars and insurance - do you tell the truth or ...?
When you fill out your insurance forms do you omit modifications or does your insurance policy allow a certain amount of mods?
I was just wonderring about turbo cars and the horsepower/torque they push out ? I had trouble in the UK recently with my Vdub which had suspension upgrades and they penalised me for making the car handle better? So for the Porsche I just said it wa stock! Anyone any tips/experiences? Rgds Ben

The only risk you run is the first time you have to file a claim. If the adjuster that comes out to assess the damage notes the mods, and can determine that you misrepresented the car on the policy application, you could be facing an insurance company that won't pay for the repairs. At least that's how it works here. I would assume it would be similar in the UK.

Steeve's right on. I'd rather pay a few extra bucks in premiums than have a situation where I have an accident and the insurance company won't cover me due to misrepresentations on the application.

My insurance companies have never asked. I recently started a new policy for my Porsche over the phone and all they asked was year, model and VIN then spit out a qoute after asking what I wanted "stated value" to be in the policy. Simply and nothing to hide because there was no questions.

I understand that if you state your car is stock and you get into an accident and tear up a rim that is non-OEM, the insurance co. will only pay for the replacement of a stock rim. Thats how it was explained to me. The more goodies you claim on your car, the higher the premiums.
Nuff said.
