Turn Signal Lever Replace?
 

I need to replace my turn signal lever on my 88 CAB. I was eye-balling the procedure and I removed the two cheese head screws on the black plastic steering column covers. Gave a few tugs but these covers don’t want to come off. Anything else holding this two cover haves on? I was thinking I would NOT need to take off the steering wheel but….. Anyway, how about a few pointers guys with this swap out? Any other things to watch out for or tricks? Thanks!

your steering wheel needs to come off. i seem to remember all the the major connection points are behind the wheel.

pretty easy on my mid year car, actually. dont know about the 88.

There are screws on the front as well as those on the sides you already tried. You'll see them once the wheel is off.

The steering wheel definitely needs to come off. Here are some other tips:

1. Mark the wheel in relationship to the steering column. That way, you can realign it easily when you put it back together.

2. DON'T use the steering lock as opposite tension against your wrench when you loosen the nut on the wheel. You'll destroy the mechanism.

3. The column switch has a series of wires that go into the back of the headlight switch. Remove and replace those one-by-one. I found it easiest to remove the headlight switch first.

4. As always when you're doing electrical work, disconnect your battery.

This isn't a difficult job. Take your time you'll have no problems.

I just did the change on my '88, and it's hard to plug the wires back on with the headlight switch still in the dash. I did it, though.
At the same time, I added the Marcus Sucro headlight relay kit.
That is a good upgrade!

The Sucro relay kit is an absolute must. Don't leave home without it.

Appreciate everyone’s help. Only thing to add to the list is when plugging in the electrical leads, lay your 45 year old back across the passenger side seat to the drivers seat. No way this old body could do it by accessing through the drivers side.

I also discovered that the hose that feeds the driver side air conditioning vents was NOT attached. Probably not reinstalled after my carpet was replaced by local shop....those dirty so and so's. Reattached that and I was almost ejected from the seat by the massive air flow.
