Sweetest 3.2 on the planet?

Well at least a candidate. Check this out: http://brentwoodrocketscience.com/r2/r2.htm

Going into an RS replica...

The CF shroud and black color theme is sweet.

But, preformance-wise it is not that exceptional - most of the things done are common for a hot rod engine of this type. AND, they didn't twin plug it. Also, they ceramic coated the headers, but not the pistons(?). The best thing would have been to ceramic line the exhaust ports, not the headers.

Overall, I think it's good documentation, and a nice color theme. But not an ultimate hot rod.

I noticed that as well. He needs to check out Aaron's "Twin Plug Goodness...Look what I made" thread.

It's a sweet motor, but I got to agree, the twin-plug would have been worth the wait.

Another candidate:

Although our own talented fabricator, Natchamp, started with a 3.0 he uses 3.2 P & Cs in his TT .....

Supertec built 3.5 MFI

I think HS's engine wins the 3.2 (incl 3.2+) contest for what I've seen in NA engines. We'd have to put turbos in a differe category.

BTW, how many folks have used either CS valves or the 993 valves in theirs?

I agree! From what I have seen and read (not very much) HS kind of put Andial's 3.2 engine conversions and rebuilds out of business. They seem to stick to 3.6 and up now.

Man, these engines are works of art. Maybe this ought to be the "ultimate engine porn" thread!

Why would they twin plug it? With 9.8:1 and carbs and that cam does it really need it?

Most of the professionals here have stated that anything over 98mm pistons need twin plugs to avoid detonation without race gas. This 3.5 engine was built to run 100 octane unleaded race gas.

Trick Leaded 115 octane is $5.66 a gallon here. Trick Unleaded 101 octane is $5.25 a gallon.

The Carrera 3.2 engine shown was built with high dome RSR pistons. They are better served with twin plugs because of the poor combustion chamber design with the RSR piston. Take a look at the web page photos. Again it is a detonation issue even with a 3.2 and 9.8:1 compression. Bad gas or a hot day and you'll have problems.

the builder's comments:
Quote:
Originally, the plan was to twin-plug the heads and run dual spark plugs, but the cost of the ignition componentry and availability of information curtailed that plan rather quickly. Also, 9.8:1 compression should still be safe for pump gas.
Make up your own mind on that one. The info is well know and easily found. I'd want twin plugs on this 3.2, the 46s add to that decision, like most here have requested.

The 3.5 specs from Henry
