Question 915 clutch can't get clutch to disengage

Little back up info: late 915 installed in 72 with fab'd cable bracket. No locknut on cable and got loose on me and pop'd out when driving. Obviously lost all clutch action and coax'd her home in high gear. Reinforced bracket (PO did conversion), readjusted cable multiple times. Added a few washers to essentially "shorten" cable and tried several times. Adjusted more thread on pedal end to shorten cable.

Ok, I've had my wife push pedal and watched the bracket...no flex now. Tranny worked beautifully before this event. Can't get her to fully release clutch no matter seemingly how tight I get the cable.

Could something slipped inside the bellhousing when she popped off? Fork or throw out bearing? I'm at a loss and fully depressing clutch pedal free the pressure plate!

Please help, its too beautiful to put her away.

What cable bracket are you refering too? Can you post a pic? I have a late 915 in my '70 and it went right in for the most part.

I did have to change the shaft that goes through the pedal cluster to get the needed travel. On the later shaft, the end that the cable attaches to, points more upward than the original and takes up more of the slack.

Oh, the bracket was I guess to help secure the tranny end. It is just a simple bracket with a whole in it for a cable case stop. It is an "L" shaped bracket that runs down and across the bottom of tranny. It essentially moves the bracket rearward in the car about an inch.

Paul, you didn't need to switch cables? Maybe I'm missing something on the cable to attach it to the tranny "U" stop for the cable??

As much as I would love to correct the cable as I asked in an earlier thread with few answers, I don't know if it is the underlying problem. I feel that something else might be going on since I'm getting NO flex at fab'd bracket now.

Can I damage anything by tightening (within reason) the cable further? I know that I could make the clutch slip if overtightened. I'm just looking a diagnostic effort right now. TIA

Luke,
I use the cable for the year of the tranny i have. I never had enough adjustment in my cable because the cable was so long. I was looking into having the cable shortened when Dave B. from TRE Motorsports told me the fix was to get the different pedal cluster shaft.

I would still like to see a pic if possible, i dont know why the PO added that bracket.

Paul
