Porsche Crest fiberglass bumper mounting options

I have one more thing to do before the car is ready to paint.. I need to fit the bumpers up. What is the best way to mount them? I was curious as to the different ways people have done this...

Well. I bought RS fiberglass bumpers from MA shaw. I guess I was just wondering what different people have done to mount them... I have heard some people talk about getting rid of the bumper shocks and some other things. Just trying to get some different options/experiences people have had.

What bumper shocks? Your car was made well before bumper shocks came around.

The install is pretty much the reverse of taking off the stock bumpers. The only difference is you will have to drill holes in the getty bumper to mount the hardware.

He's right, unless you are backdating a '74 or later, there's no bumper shocks to worry about. I bought my bumper from AIR and the hardware was pre-installed (it was 'glassed in) and only needed to be alligned and mounted. If your hardware was not pre-installed, any good body shop should be able to do it for you, just make sure they have experience with Fiberglass pieces becuase you don't want the bumper falling off in traffic going over a pot hole or bump. Even if it was pre-installed, I'd still ask the body shop to reinforce it with a bit of extra glassing, a lot of times, it really needs the re-inforcement. If you are hellbent on doing it yourself, ask a reputable body shop which cloth weight, resin and hardeners you should use and how much mixture ratio. This is important stuff, I surf and repair my own dings and if you don't mix the resin and hardeners correctly, you get a very weak repair that will do more bad than good. You could probably buy them directly from the shop under the table for a Jackson or a few bux Just remember, once the hardware's mounted, it's on there for good, or it should be anyway. So take your time. I'm sure there might even be some people that can help you here on the Pelican Board that can help you with the cloth weight, resin and mixture. I would help, but I'm not sure if they are thicker fiber cloth weights and different resin/hardeners than a surfboard. Goood Luck.

I'm sure there are brackets glassed in the back side. You will most likely need a bag of washers to use as spacers. When the part comes to the body right where you want it, the bolt/nuts should be snugging up pretty good at that point. If it's too close, add some washers and do it again.

FG parts are trial and error to fit. Many times you have to grind on them to change the contour to get them right. Fewer times, you might have to add some fiberglass to get things to marrry up right. It's not a one hour job unless you're lucky.
