DentPro believer!

My 87 was delivered with two door dings, one on the driver's side that I knew about and one on the passenger side that occurred when the car was shipped. I've been putting off having these fixed for about 9 months now and finally got comfortable enough with the car to call DentPro. I first went down to the Volvo deleashship (no Porsche dealership around these parts) which always has a few 996's and an occasional 993 for resale to find out who worked on their cars. Ron from DentPro was the recommendation so I made an appointment and removed both door panels in preparation for his arrival.

Ron started on the driver's door, a small ding near the top of the door handle. I went in the house for a couple of minutes, came back out and he was done -- there was no evidence that a ding had ever been on the door. I was more worried about the passenger side ding that was just in front of the door handle and partially behind the internal door brace. I held the door partially closed against a block of wood placed between the door and the door stop. Ron worked away and the ding just vanished before my eyes. He had one spot just a tiny bit high and used a plastic (or hard rubber) rounded chisel and a mallot to tap it back down. He then spent a couple of minutes working the portion behind the internal brace till the repair was perfect. This ding was about the size of a quarter with a crease in the middle and there's no hint that it was ever there.

If you're in San Luis Obispo County and have been putting this off like I was, I highly recommend you give DentPro a call and ask for Ron. He's been doing this for 12 years and is a true professional at his craft. This is the best $80 I've spent in a while. Disclaimer: I have no affiliation with DentPro.

I also get an upgrade out of the deal. My original speakers are shot (big surprise):

I've only had the radio on once to see if it works, but I can't see putting the above unit back into the doors.

Gratuitous pic:

I saw one of the dent removers work at the Hershey Swap Meet in April, and was also amazed. I have a few in my 84 that need some attention when time permits.
regards,
Steve
