AC Evaporator Expansion Valve...
Sorry for the bad question....
What does this expansion valve actually do...?? And can they go bad and need replacing...?? Phattey...

The expansion valve is attached to the evaporator and is the point where the freon goes from high pressure (hot) to low pressure and the resulting pressure drop causes the temperature drop. Thus your evaporator is cooled and cools the air passing over it.
They can fail. Sometime just overcharging the system can cause them to fail but usually it is contaminents (ie: dirt, rust, oil gunk) that plugs them up. The part is fairly inexpensive ($23-$26) but when you open the system to replace it, the system will have to be evacuated and re-charged.
