NEVER MIND...FIXED IT!!!! Need some help!!! Car won't start!
Here's the deal: I was doing some wiring for a new alarm system yesterday and didn't disconnect the battery (I know...duh, first thing you should do). At one point I was testing the alarm module and think I short circuited something. Now the car won't start!!! The car turns over fine but doesn't start.
Here are the details: 1) Car is an 84 with Motronic 2) The alarm is not hooked up to the car. 3) So far I've tested the following for power/ground/etc as per the Bentley Manual as well as replacing with spares that I have: DME Relay DME Control Unit Ignition Coil 4) I've also bypassed the DME relay to make sure the fuel pump runs. 5) I tested Terminal 20 on the DME harness and connected to ground to make sure the fuel pump runs. 6) The resistance measurements on the coil are fine but there doesn't seem to be any spark. Why?? What am I missing here? Any ideas? I've been working on this all weekend and it's driving me crazy....... TIA Devin ********************* EDIT - So 5 minutes after I posted this, I went back out and started from the begining, checking everything. And sure enough, I noticed this time around that the crankshaft reference sensor was loose. I disconnected, then reconnected it and guess what??? The car STARTED!!!!! I figured I'd leave this post up as advice to check the reference sensors as well as the obvious stuff when your 84-89 won't start. thanks Devin |
