What is this brace?
See the brace hanging down in the center of the pic. (Sorry about the underexposure.) In converting back to early style bumpers on my '71, this is usless. It was attached to the mid year bumper that the PO put on the car many years ago. I can't figure out how to detach it as it goes up into the rear sub monocoque frame between the oil tank and the engine seal. Looks like some sort of OEM part. I'm lost on this one.

Great. How do I get it off? I'm not about to rip it off the monocoque. It has some kind of blind attachment. It spins but it doesn't want to undo.
You know, the PO did this (or had it done) and some parts of it were decently done. But it was all hand fabricated brackets and such bolting up the the stock holes. I can't believe they went to the trouble that they did with this '74 and later brace. And I can't get the mother off. |

Milt
That peice may be original to the 71. My '73 has 'em, though they are shaped differently. It lends support to the lower fender/front of the bumper.

There is a huge nut (@19-26mm with a locking ring,-bent washer-) that holds this 'pipe' on. Look below the oil filter on the frame portion. If you pull on the pipe hard you will see the top portion move and see where it is.

Milt,
Do you want to sell those lower fender supports? My driver's side support on my '74 is missing and I'd like to replace it. Thanks!

Looks like a rear flare extension support bracket.
