Any Houston People care to scout and recommend a PPI shop?

It’s a hack, so if you’re offended don't read on. What we have is a 1977 Turbo Look Cab (Metal Flares)..This car has had an older restoration done to it and has been maintained. Work was done by German Performance back then. Seems the owner was anal about the work being done to it and spared no expense, what I was told driven 500 miles since restoration, the owner was told by a mechanic it needs to be driving and not sitting. Hmmm really? I thought they were all garage queens? What I am looking for is someone that is super anal and meticulous about conversions (if there is such a thing) to check this car out for me. The owner has faxed over some paper work on the car, but not enough to warrent a PPI yet.

Car is at Highway 6 North, Houston, TX 77084

p.s yes I know about the turbo tail and the turbo emblem

I’d question how meticulously that work was done

1/ they didn’t bother replacing the engine compartment rubber seal after painting
2/ the bolts for the rear latch mechanism are painted over.
3/ what are those seats out of?
4/ the rear plastic window looks opaque.

It's pretty far out of the way for me, 45 miles. If the owner wants to meet me somewhere closer, I'll look at it.

JMZ, I'll second the comments about Terry. He is one of those rare really great guys. I used to live a few blocks from his shop. He helped me find my 930. I don't know if he bothers with PPI's though.

IMO, the seats look too big and puffy. kinda like they belong in a lowered LA style diesel duallie. there rest is ok. it would take some serious scrutiny. any details on what has happened to the 2.7 so far?

Thanks Socal , yeah it got the air cooled engine in this one, only the body and the targa were hacked. If the owner says he put as much as he did in this car it can be a good car ...just need the right people to confirm that for me

Vash , yes the seats are a eye sore but they can be easily taken out and replaced...this 2.7 was rebuilt at German Performance in Houston, Tx .. work done : insert case, line hone case, remove broken studs , machine flywheel, deck case, assemble long block, assemble sheetmetal, injection and exhaust, install rebuilt heads, mill to square, remove guides, repair guide holes and machine each guide to fit, install guides with liquid nitrogen and do valve job, replace all injectors , but the work was done a while back and the owner claims it has been sitting and driven only 500 miles since then...

Did they time-sert the case or use case-savers? Chances are that the studs pulled rather than broke.

How many years ago was this done?

maybe $5K. Perhaps a tad more if there are copious records on the engine rebuild and it was done right.

I live near HWY 6 north. What is the cross street? I'll go by and look. What are your definite "deal killer" parameters? If its cheap enough and drives well then it could have the correct seats put in it and the rear gasket, etc.. If the guy seems to have something to hide I'll let you know that also.

Mike
