Saw a real 911R at a car museum!

I was in Las Vegas last week and I went to the car museum on the strip. Sorry cant for the life of me rememeber the name of the casino!!! Must have been that 2' tall purple thing I drank - any way there was a real live 911R - 67' I think, yellow. I some how forgot my camera (again I will blaim it on the beverage). So no pictures. Amazing how light those cars "look". They estimated its value at $245K I think. That seems high - how many of those were built? I was disapointed because they would not open the engine lid for me. Maybe a local Pelican could get some pics for us?

I apologize if this has already been posted.

Some other neat cars in there, many for sale. 4 or 5 Gruppe B rally cars and some wild custom 50s' domestic iron.

The cars used to be at the Imperial Palace. I don't know where they are now, but Ritchie Cline of the IP had very nice collection. He was also the main influence and money behind the LV Motor Speedway. He had a rough time with it financially and sold the cars, IIRC. Don't know if the two events are necessarily related.

Of course, after a couple of developement years after the track opened, and the finishing of the road course, it is a huge success. And no longer owned by Cline.

I wonder if the 911R was originally in his collection. Many of the cars were from Bill Harrah. I wonder if he had the R first.

Yes Imperial Palace - that was it. No ownership history on the cars just a little blurb about there automotive history - racing or whatever. I remember hearing that Harrah sold off his collection like you said. I had remembered there was a huge collection in LV at one time but I couldn't recall Harrah

I asked a bunch of people where to go to see cars and no one had a clue, I finally saw a small add for this at a brochure stand.

I was in Reno a few months ago and I went to the Harrah's museum. It was impressive with alot of unusual cars. There were a couple of porsches but that was about it. Interesting overall, but not Porsche specific.

If your ever in Ft Lauderdale and like flea markets, stop by the swap shop. They still have a few of Preston Henn's old race cars. I remember seeing a Ferrari 365, A 962 and of course the old 935. I hear that he periodically switches cars out so something new is there to see every so often. Anyone else Know for sure??

There were only 20 911R models built in the production run, along with 4 prototypes that are less well documented. They are very rare. #20 is going on sale at Monterey for $350K, so $245K would be a bargain, especially if it had a racing history.

the silver R was advertised in excellence a few years back. the first ads appeared with a $350K asking price. after a few months the asking price fell to $300K. it will be interesting to see if the silver R will fetch the asking price. also by yellow do you mean gold? all the R cars were white except the one silver and one cadillac gold. the prototypes are a different story.

This car was light yellow - sort of washed out yellow?? I wonder if it is the real deal? I recall now that they were pretty much all white.

Sometimes when I drink too much the gap between the torsion bar cover and the fender lip narrows down.

I'd buy it for $245k. I am not kidding.

Yes that was it. maybe the price was $345K? Actually it was not a price but an "estimated value". Sorry I think my mind stayed in Vegas with my money :-))

Elombard,

I have pictures of the car in Vegas, I also took several pics of the white 934 they had on display. The pics are at home but I can bring them in tomorrow if you want me to post them.

We were there in June and the White 934 was just way too cool. I took pics under, over and inside. I just love the look of those beasts.....
