Porsche Crest Stand alone MAF

I know this subject has probaly been beaten to death but has any one tried out the Pro- M stand alone MAF and if so did you change your injector size and fuel pressure regulator. I have been researching this subject for my 86 Carerra for a few weeks and it is pretty involved. I have been told that there was a article in Euro Tuner magazine but I don't know the month or the year it was written any good info appreciated. Thanks

You might want to talk to Tobias Kindermann. He has had a hot wire system approved for TUV. I've ridden in his car and the results seem pretty good. This site is in German, but if you E-mail him, his english is very good.

The Autothority kit uses a Pro-M MAF - so I guess that there are lots of people using them in Carreras without other mods other than chip. I'm sure that the AFM to MAF swap is in-its-self irrelevant in context of fuel pressure/injector size.

Steve Wong seems to be knowledgable about MAFs in Carreras.

(sorry Steve - I know you're pretty busy these days).

I talked to a guy a 9xauto.com and he said to realy get any serious performance out of a hot wire system you got go up to a 50lbs per hr. Accel injector, adjustable fuel pressure regulator and a chip you can program with a laptop. This does make sense because you are increasing airflow with a MAF. Iam now starting to think a fresh inspection sticker and a cat bypass system, steve wong chip and a high airflow kit would good enough for me

The stock injectors and fuel pressure is capable of delivering enough fuel for even a 3.6 displacement increase. If someone is telling you to put in bigger injectors and/or use an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, they have no clue about what they are talking about. Most of the performance that comes with MAF is mostly due to the elimination of the stock airbox, and the optimization of the air fuel ratios and ignition timing. The net gain from using a MAF over the stock AFM is about 6-7 hp at the very top end, all other parameters being equal, hardly enough of a change to justify 50 lb injectors and such.

Some exhaust mods and a chip is your best bet. If you want the very next level of power, then some dyno data with an air fuel data of your car, would allow a custom chip precisely dialed into your car.

I agree with you I been reading all you dyno read outs and they look good. If I gave you the spec on what I have for components can you send out a chip that suits the bill I also have to check if I have a 2K or 4K system. I am thinking about a AirTEK filter ,fAB speed cat bypass or does the Dansk have cat bypass with a bung for th O2 sensor, and are they stainless? Also would a sport muffler do any thing. I do know the stock on ways a ton. I have had Borla exhaust before and I wounld never buy one again, Thank Scott

Hi Tim,

nice to hear from You again. Hope You´ll be fine (and Your brother too). My system does not use a hot wire. It uses a HFM Type 2 from Bosch.

@Rutherford: Changing the chip should be a first step - and is the cheapest. After this, it becomes more expensive. But a HFM-Kit ist cheaper than mounting new cams or buying a ssi. Steve says, it will give You 6-7 HP, IMO it´s about 8-10 HP.

IMO: A individual set-up to a chip (with hfm or not) should be done on the road. There is a new system aviable called "LM1" (lambda-meter with data-login), a friend of Steve has been starting to use in Germany. I´ve been using a much more simple system, when we developped the hfm-kit and will check the setup again the next time with a much more better equipment.

Regards

Tobias
