Starting my interior work soon. Anyone used StealthKote?

I'm gathering materials for the interior and I was calling some car audio places for sound barrier suggestions. One guy tells me he likes StealthKote spray-in stuff. Said he did the undercarriage of his Suburban and it added roughly 25lbs.(don't know how he calculated that?) He also said the manufacturer has modified the product for interior use. Have you guys heard of or used this stuff? I know Dynamat is a popular solution but wanted to explore others. I'm not too concerned with weight (I know, sacrilege ) as I don't see a day that I will be counting the lbs at the track. This StealthKote stuff sounds like it could be messy.

I really dig Rallyjon's interior. He used Dynamat and Brown Bread. Any other suggestions/solutions?

Also, I'm wanting to replace/modify my door panels to remove my tilt-out pockets and have the later style flip-top without the pleats of the middle year panels. What am I getting myself into with the door panel morphing? I love my smooth panel but hate the tilt-out. Love the flip top, but don't like the pleats of the later panels.

What should I do?

Sincerely, "Mulling in Mesa"

Don,
I re-did my interior last winter and used a product called Fatmat that i got off of Ebay. The companys' service was terrible, but the product is identical to the Dynamat i checked out at Best Buy.

Anyway, i only used half of it on my entire floor, seats, and rear shelf. I think i have a pic. This stuff was less than half the price of Dynamat, if you are interested in the roll i have left, i could send you a sample to check out.

Paul

Has anybody done a "before and after" with a dB meter when installing this kinda stuff? I'd be real interested to know how much of a difference it makes given the cost, labor and added weight. I'd install some sound deadening material if it made enough of a difference.

Another thing.... Black or Charcoal carpet? My car is Silver w/black interior now. I plan on keeping the black door panels and seats but was entertaining the thought of going with Charcoal carpet. Any pics out there of Silver or Grey cars with Charcoal.

I'm sure it's safest to stay with black. Any input from the Peanut Gallery?

And David, depending on the removal job of the existing floor covering and what combination of new material, it would likely be a wash as far as weight is concerned. What do you think?

I used a product called "Brown Bread" when I redid the interior last winter. The product is very similar to Dynamat.

You can find it here.

I ordered a roll and put it everywhere; floor, door panels, etc. Not impressed with the results, I tore everything out again and put on a second layer. I still don't hear much difference from the inside... not too impressed and if I knew the results, I don't think I wouldn't have done it. However, some say that it works great.

Maybe I just can't tell the difference because of all that wind noise coming from my targa top

Oh ya... word of advice; don't install this in the dead of the winter in a cold garage. I think I did mine and it was -15c outside. What a pain.

After i ripped the interior out of my car i drove to Charlotte and back to meet some friends (1 hour each way). It was the worst drive i have ever had in the car. Granted my car is always loud, but the road noise was intolerable.

After i finished with the re-insulation, it was basically back to normal. The improvement came from the fact that i had removed all of the old tar and horsehair, and had POR'd the surface rust on the floor pan that came from moisture that the old stuff had held in.

I feel sure that my car lost some weight in the process.
