that was an awsome video, but I'm less than happy with the results!!!!! They shoulda used a GT-2 or even a GT-3 to make it a little more fair, but the NSX & BMW M3 surprised the crap out of me!!! The others, well it could be expected for that kind of cash.

the GT3 probably would have come in 2nd place, maybe even 1st depending on how long the straights were (Lambo would have had the edge there). The GT3 is easily faster around almost any race track than the 996TT.

They were using race-specials like the NSXR and the M3CSL... why not the 996 GT3 and 360 Challenge Stradale? Probably couldn't find a loaner car in time for the test.

Best Motoring results:
1) Murcialago
2) Gallardo
3) NSXR
4) 996 TT
5) M3 CSL
6) 360 Modena

Results if they matched the cars evenly
1) 996 GT3
2) 360 Challenge Stradale
3) Murcialago
4) Gallardo
5) NSXR
6) M3 CSL

The JDM cars in the Best Motoring videos are on R-compound rubber, that's why the NSX is outbraking everybody and handling that well. The 996 is a tip and isn't even being driven near its limits.

Being a fan of the GT3 and someone who isn't excited about the AWD and weight of the 996 turbo, I would have suggested a GT3 here as well. I've come to learn a little more respect for the 996 TT as a track car though. A 996 turbo should be able to wipe the floor with the competition here. The GT3 runs the ring in 7:54 while the 996 turbo does it in 7:56. Since that time the 996TT has gone from 420 to 450 hp and a new suspension option is available. A Turbo S with the X71 (I might have forgotten the code and I think that suspension may not be even available in the states) would be a VERY potent package indeed and VERY different than the 420 hp Tip car in the best motoring test.

Another problem with Best Motoring is the difference in driver's skills in addition to interesting starting grids that can't be changed because the driver's block each other so faster cars can't advance.

On a related topic: I still prefer the GT3, but since the 997 turbo should eclipse even the fastest iteration of the 996TT, I can only imagine how impressive it will be.

i think a lot of this test has to do with the length of the straightaways... that's why the lambos walk away from everyone else at certain points in this race.

Interesting that the Ferrari simply can't seem to keep up at all. I wonder if there was something wrong with the car.
