1 7/8" crows foot work for 46mm?
Does anyone know if an 1 7/8" crow's foot wrench will work OK on the 46mm cam nuts? I know it's close, just wondering if anyone's BTDT.

1 7/8 is almost 48 mm. I don't think I'd go that route.

I think it the same as 1 13/16s> I would have to look. Or maybe do the math . Any how I bought a wrench for 10 bucks and cut the box end off and drilled a hole and filed it down to except a 3/8 drive. Now I know everybody is thinking cheep but I was in a pinch. It worked so well I have used it on 2 engines since with no rounding of the cam nuts

The crow's foot wrench is not an ideal tool!
The problem is that you apply force off the center of the nut. This makes it easy for it to slip. I was VERY careful when I tried to remove the cam nuts on my engine with the 46 mm crow's foot, but it didn't work. I bought a 46 mm socket and welded it to a long piece of pipe. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads2/IM000377a1080999519.jpg I seriously consider making another tool which allows me to torque the nuts to the correct specs without the use of a crow's foot.

If you're lucky you can get them off with the crow's foot tool. In most cases it will work.
In my case... Well, let me just say I'm glad the steel pipe was no shorter than 4 feet ![]()

The factory tool looks similar in that the cam holder goes thru the the 46mm socket. But, It's a BIG T wrench with a cutout on the shaft for the holder tool.
![]() Someone should do this right. Get some 46mm 6 pt. Sockets and drill them out for the cam holder tool and weld a bar on the side of the socket. Ben? |

150Nm / 110 ft/lb on the nut. Nothing you want to do with a tool that does not fit properly. The factory tool works just fine, unless you are crosseyed or epileptic.
