Early 911 Speedster thread

I am presently researching building one of these and found these pics below - definately motivational.

Here's also a link to a car maresdesign is building:

early 911 speedster project goes!

Anyone else got any info?

My plan is to go for a more vintage feel in a narrow body - possibly with one small perspex screen or a pair of hinged screens (eg think Morgan Plus 8)

Anyone else thought of or doing this?

Anyone have a cheap RHD early targa for sale????

That looks cool. Is it an OEM hardtop?

Looks awesome, Ryan! Do a search for John Walker's roadster: '73 cabrio, 3.3 turbo power...

Great pic, Kurt ... Stan Townes project was an amazing piece of work, capturing the light feel of the early cars!

Do you have Joe Rusz' Porsche Sport 72? It has a great article on the Townes car ... odd, oversize format is too big for my scanner without doing a bit of surgery on it!

You could save some money and create the speedster look on a targa with the perspex screen or replica windshield, replica bubble and a tonneau cover (like the 356 speedster). This would save you from spending $$$$ on buying the top, top frame, speedster doors, factory bubble and windshield.

If you buy factory parts I recommend 1989 windshield and 1994 top, bubble and frame. The 1989 windshield design would probably attach better to an early car. The 1994 windshield attaches to a C2 frame and has a built-in antenna. The 1994 top looks better because it attaches to the bubble and pulls tighter over the top frame. The 1989 top snaps on the body of car and flaps more in the wind. The door windows are manual in 1989 and power in 1994.

Steve - I've got a bunch of this stuff but i've never seen the gulf coloured one before. Got any more pics.

Shawn - that's what i'm planning, cut off targa hoop and windscreen, replica clamshell (but maybe with only one hump like the 550's) and tiny little screen (again possibly driver's side only) and leave the rest of the car stock so i can try and convince people its factory...

Sorry for the poor 'photos of magazines' but no scanner at home.

959 Speedster (also as a Cabrio or hardtop also with related windshield change)
Sports Car International - February 1990

911 Speedster(s)
European Car - June 1994

BTW, Ryan (obrut) if you would like the large poster of the 959 Speedster that came with the Sport Car International magazine, drop me your mailing address at spdy356-911@yahoo.com, and I'll send it off to you.
