Oil temp sending unit for 1967 911

Guys,
Can anyone tell me if there is a difference between the early oil temp sending units for the SWB cars versus the sending units for the early lwb 911`s.
I have a numbered temp gauge which seems to function normally until it reaches around 160-180 fahrenheit before it starts jumping way up and back down. At operating tempereature, It will sometimes go down when I accelerate, and then level back up when I lay off the accelerator. Can I assume that its the sending unit.? If so, anyone know where I can buy a new one?
Pelican has oil temperature sending units listed for sale on their site but they only list them for model years after 1968.
Thanks

Hi there,

I had the exact same problem that you describes with my SWB 68T.
At cold start, my oil temp reach max level, lowering as I drive, to the min.
I wanted to change my oil temp sending unit, but I found it Waaaay too much expensive (approx $200 compared to the $20 for the 69 sending unit so YES, they are different).
I then decided to change both sending unit and gauge, for a later oil temp - pressure combi (option fot 68 T models).
Change done (easy), and perfect reading since.

Hope this helps...

Doop.
Thanks for the suggestion. However, my gauge faces are the early SWB green lettered ones with the chrome bezels. The 68 models went to white lettering. If I changed to a later style, I would have to change them all. Would rather stick with my originals.
Regards
