Hey dude, where'd my engine oil cooler go

I'm tearing down my engine (type=930/69, case=930.101.104.6R) for a rebuild. I'm a long time 911 owner but this is the first rebuild I'm trying myself. I've always wanted to ask someone why my current engine has the oil filter in the exact spot where all my other 911 engines had the engine oil cooler. Where is my cooler or why doesn't Porsche feel I needed one. Can or should I put an engine oil cooler where the filter assemply is now and reposition the filter assembly?

Daryl , Porsche realized that with the use of a front mounted cooler the rear engine mounted cooler was basically adding no further help . The engine mounted coolers were deleted from production in 1991 (at least on the 3.3/3.6 turbos anyway) . Without the cooler there we save quite a few pounds and also have one less place for leaks to develope. I was givin this info from Jeff at Kelly Moss when I asked the same question.
