MSD coil
I am going to install an MSD 6 ignition box in my '82 911. I think I also have to go with the MSD Blaster coil. What is a ballast and do I need one in my situation?

Blast(er) it all.....
Just get the MSD high vibration coil if you are going to mount it in the stock upside down position. If you have relocated the coil and can mount it right side up, the Blaster 2 coil will work. You should be able to get either of them for $40-50.

Make sure your wires are secure and you get (or modify) the coil boot. Ask me how I know (see photo). Doug, I see you have a Brown SC and you're in the DC area. You should check out www.dorkiphus.com. Lots of good local guys who like to wrench and (oddly) lots of brown SCs... It's a conservative town I guess... :D http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1092451994.jpg |
I have to ask why the msd blaster 2 cannot be mounted in the stock position? The coil is suppose to be vibration resistant.

the high vibe version is epoxy filled to resist the shakes.

The Blaster 2 coil is oil-filled, and per MSD's own catalog ... should only be mounted upwards, that is, output terminal UP!
